I agree with what Ollie did. If Bree really wants Lucas to have it she will tell him. I don't know why Bree told Ollie. That did not make sense to me. Was she testing him to see if he would keep it?
I can understand Ollie deciding to leave the money where it is since it was Bree's wishes for Lucas to eventually get the money. I don't think Bree even knew what she was saying at the point where she woke up and told Ollie. She could have told anyone who was in the room and not remember it later. I wonder if she eventually tells Lucas, would he keep the money? I don't think he would.
At this point should Lucas get the money him spending it would be suspicious and could get him in trouble. Someone should really try and remember the money doesn't belong to them but to whichever agency who covered the loss of the funds to the bank to begin with, FDIC maybe. Spending it really is not an option. I work in a casino which is considered a financial institute by the Federal Government and the money that was printed prior to the bank robbery, although completely legal bank notes, are getting harder and harder to come by as they are all being sent in to the federal reserves for destruction. With that said $100,000 in this old currency would raise even more suspicion than some may think.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing the info.

I really liked how the book wrapped up but IRL it wouldn't work like that as Christina commented. Bree would be facing charges and endless interviewing, it would be only a matter of time till it all came out. And Lucas would be devastated knowing that his mother kept the secret all these years. And the person she had been, opening up a whole can of emotional worms.
It was a bit simplistic but as a fictional story it was enjoyable.
It becomes problematic when money from a robbery is located this many years after. The bank was reimbursed via insurance and I’m unclear as to what happens at the FDIC, the insurer. In any event, the money doesn’t belong to Bree, let alone Lucas. I’d be surprised if he’d even use it knowing its origin.
Did Ollie do the right thing? I think so. Bree doesn’t even remember she told him. She may have believed she was talking to Lucas in that moment. Bree needs to fess up and return the money. It would help her case. I was surprised she held that back.
Poor Lucas. His world just got shattered.

I do feel really bad for Lucas. Here he is working at the police department and his mother is going to be indicted for murder and theft.
You're right. Bree is Ina's DIL. Ina said she was so proud of Bree for getting the Teach of the Year Award. She'll be really shocked and disappointed.
I missed this question. I am disappointed that Ollie decided to keep the money hidden. It seems like a slap at Truman and Mercy who are both in law enforcement. The money should be returned to the rightful owner, who is now the insurance company. It is also wrong for Lucas to accept the money. He works for the police department. The whole situation doesn't feel right to me especially Ollie's decision.
Sharon, I felt like Ollie believed it was Bree’s decision to make. Given his upbringing, it would be consistent with his view of things.
Jonetta, you have a point, but it still doesn't sit right with me. I'll listen to the end again. Maybe I missed something. To me, if information about a crime is overheard, sitting in a restaurant, or in the park, etc. I'm obligated to let the police know. I can't say to myself they weren't talking to me.
Ollie is around law enforcement all the time. He knows they robbed a bank. At a minimum he should have a "what if" conversation with Truman. Hiding the money again is giving Lucas the profits from a crime, if he goes down that road.
I get why it doesn’t sit right with you. Everything you say is what I would apply to myself. I couldn’t live with myself doing anything else.
The only difference for me is Ollie hasn’t been around law enforcement that long. He grew up in the wilderness, solitary except for his grandfather. He hasn’t yet learned what you and I know. His instincts are very different, opting to let others decide for themselves what’s right and wrong for them unless someone’s life is threatened.
I just can’t hold him to a standard he doesn’t really know. Now Lucas is a whole other situation.

Oh, I'm not trying to change your mind! Just wanted to be clear on why I'm feeling the way I do. It's not a small thing.
I'm pretty sure that it will come out now where the money is. The authorities know Bree is the guilty party and it is not feasible that Lucas (or anyone) would be able to keep the money. And especially seeing Lucas is a Law Enforcement officer. I too can see why Ollie didn't want to get involved given his background, life experience and age. It plays true to his character IMHO. Whether it is right or wrong is a completely different issue. I hope we get to see what happens next with Lucas and Ina in the next book. They both will be devastated when they thought so highly of Bree to what a large shadow she had in her past.

Sometimes it makes me re-evaluate my stand or thought process. At a minimum it makes me look at events from a different perspective.
Bree claimed all the money was gone so the authorities aren't looking for it anymore. When Mercy and team didn't find it, I think they assumed she was telling the truth.
That's a good point Jonetta. Looks like the money will just stay where it is then unless Bree cracks.
I hope Ollie and Lucas mature enough to realize the money is not theirs to use in any way. What a pickle for these young guys; I can't see Ollie thinking it's right when he gets some time away from his concern for Bree's safety, etc.

I think so, Lisa. She’ll wait to tell Lucas until she has to.

Lucas doesn’t know yet.
Lucas doesn’t know yet.
That is a lot of money. Bree should turn it in and not make her son or Ollie decide. I still think it is wrong.
I’m not feeling all that great about Bree. She may have seemed to be a good person but her decisions past and present leave a lot to be desired.
