It's time for everyone to nominate a book for our August 2020 group read.

Continuing on with our different tasks each month:

For August's read we are looking for A book with a dead (human) BODY on the cover
So, nominate a crime/mystery/thriller/suspense book to cover August's task :)

Don't forget - 1st in a series, if a series

This thread will be open until 10th July, then nominations will go to the vote.

Authors and publishers, please don't nominate your own work!

Kylie H | 1255 comments Brenda, did you mean to send out a message regarding the nominations? I only noticed that this had gone up while looking for something else.

Yes I'm sure I did Kylie... you didn't get one obviously :( Perhaps I forgot - I'll do it now :) Thank you...

It took me a while, I had given up then walked past my book case and the one that I nominated caught my eye! Found it without actually trying ☺

message 10: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 2078 comments Took me a while too Kerri. I had to trawl through my very large tbr looking at covers - not many bodies!

It sounds terrible, looking for a body! I was going through my TBR list and then looking at 'all editions' as some covers do have a body, not that I had much luck trying it that way.

I just went through my Crime TBR on here looking for a body ;) Was going to do the rest if one wasn't available in Crime.

message 13: by Kathryn in FL (new)

Kathryn in FL (kathryninapopka) | 13 comments I did a search for "Books with human body on the cover". A link of 20 covers came up but none of the pictures showed up in the link! The list shows no titles either.
Anyone else able to see a picture?

message 14: by Kathryn in FL (new)

Kathryn in FL (kathryninapopka) | 13 comments I found this on my TBR, it has a human body though I didn't know if it is allowed since it isn't a "distressed"/deceased one (is that a requirement?).

Did you mean this one Kathryn? If so, it has to be a dead body (as the ones already mentioned)

Did I suggest this as a topic Brenda? If so I apologise and I can't find one anywhere.

message 17: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

Brenda | 11948 comments Mod
Haha yes 🥴 I have quite a few on my TBR, a number of them not 1st in series.

And then I found one! The Christopher Killer by Alane Ferguson The Christopher Killer (Forensic Mysteries, #1) by Alane Ferguson She looks very dead to me

She sure does!

I found a dead bird...

Kerri, even though it's not said, a dead human body is what it should be. With the group being what it is, I don't think a dead bird would be the scale of crime/mystery we're used to ;)

message 22: by Kerri_M (new)

Kerri_M | 785 comments in that case, I have nothing :)

I just checked and this was a question in our Annual Challenge in 2019. People came up with lots of different ones there but of course some were from part way through series which we can't do here. Tess Gerritson came up a lot!!!

Kylie H | 1255 comments Could it be a book with the word 'body' in the title?

The Two Faces of January by Patricia Highsmith

I think it's a dead body on the cover.

message 27: by Carolyn (last edited Jul 04, 2020 05:59PM) (new)

Carolyn | 2078 comments The Christopher Killer sounds good Phrynne. She definitely looks dead!

It's weird isn't it that we can't find many bodies on thrillers. I did find a couple more bodies in my tbr, but as you mentioned they were part way through series.

Yes, I think we can assume he is dead Trevor. Should be a good book too.

No, I think we are getting enough choices for a vote the way it is Kylie:)

Agree with Phrynne, Trevor - very blurry when enlarged though!

Yes. Well, maybe in another book club... I bow to the other more clever among us.

I guess all groups have different guidelines Kathryn. And no one is more or less clever than the other either :)

Brenda,
I apologize for not writing the note clearly. I was a bit frustrated that my search didn't bear much fruit. I'm glad other's searches did. Thus in this instance they are in fact more clever.
My tastes vary among several genres, so I know that something that I want to read may be voted on occasionally, so if not here then another...or I can read it on my own. It's all good.
No worries! I hope I didn't sound too snarky.

Louisa, I've zoomed the cover as much as I can and can't see a dead body on the cover...
