LARGE PRINT Editions, are they worth the effort?

Yes. I have the first of mine in LP. My father is blind in one eye, he used to read a lot, and preferred large print as he struggled with normal size text.

Not everyone has an e-reader and there is still a place for large print books.

I used Create Space - you are a bit restricted by the page count. Obviously the larger font means a lot more pages so longer books might need to be split. My first novel is available in LP - but the second was two large and I haven't yet released book 2 but will.

Unfortunately the price is quite high.

It might be worth it if the book has a strong appeal to the audience likely to buy Large Print books.

It might cost more, but if you're going to do it in print anyway then the visually impaired community would thank you for making the effort to publish a large print edition.

I think it's a great idea when it is possible. People with bad eyesight love to read too.
In your case, the difference in pages is big, but the book has enough content to be worth it.

Yes. I agree. I'll sort out the second novel and split if needed. I know libraries are quite grateful for them.

I'm all for Largeprint editions.

I think I opted for very little royalty back on the LP ones. It's worth making audio available too.

I've seen this. Createspace has an option where you can click a box and have Large print versions, regrettably I didn't do it cause I didn't know if it makes all copies like this and I just didn't want it like that. If it's an option then it's worth considering, not every one can read normally.

Variation on this theme and also pricey (more so than large print) is to create audio books.

i wish i could do lp editions but my Doorstoppers are already huge -_- i would go for it since i have bad eyesight myself (runs in family) and they all read too (just not my works tho... too out there for them lolz). due to cost and printer limitations i wouldnt be able to right now... but it would be nice option to have

Whenever I run into someone who has difficulty reading, I explain they can download a Kindle reader from Amazon for their computer. Then, just like any e-reader, I show them how to increase the font size to help them read. They're usually thrilled, because they claim LP books are very expensive.

It is an aging population, but I think there are alternatives to LP books, that should be examined and explained before an author makes the commitment. I think LP books is a very costly solution.
