SOLVED. YA(?) Dystopian novel featuring an alternate earth that chosen people travel to via alien bubbles [s]

This book is fairly new -- I read it 2017-18 and the author was still writing the sequel.
The basic plot:
- Handful of teens are "saved" from earth before it is destroyed by alien beings.
- Aliens freeze earth time while saving humans from destruction.
- The humans travel to an alternate earth in bubbles.
- In the alternate earth they have special powers, each different.
- Alternate earth isn't exactly alike, as shown by one person who sings radio music that hadn't been written on that earth.
- There is some sort of time loop.
- The aliens told the humans they were special and being saved but in the end they were evil.
- There were 3 aliens: two parents and their offspring, and the mother was the most evil.
- Original earth humans find others who had been transported as well.
- I think it ends with some sort of resistance group, and I was very excited for the sequel, but I can't remember the name and it has been driving me up the wall for a year now!

Now that I think of it, I read 2 books, and the second is the one that came out in 2017-2018, but I’m not sure when the first book came out.
