Georgeana | 26 comments I read this sometime in 2003-2007. I am not sure when it would have been published.

I remember very little. This was a book I read when I was in elementary school and was a children's book.

I remember there were three sisters. The story was from the POV of the middle sister. The middle sister felt ignored by her parents and sisters. Her parents seemed to focus most on the older and younger sister. I think the middle sister viewed her parents as paying attention to the older sister because she was talented and smart, and they paid attention to the younger sister because she was the baby of the family and cute.

I'm not sure if this book even exists or if I made it up. I am hoping someone can help me out.

Georgeana | 26 comments This would have been a chapter book, not a picture book. It would have been either for early middle school or older elementary (3+). It may have been published in the late '90s/early 2000s, but I am not certain.

I think one of the sisters participated in some kind of dance, maybe ballet. I think I remember a scene where one of the sisters was dancing around and the middle sister was annoyed.

I think near the ending of the book either a)the middle sister talks with her parents about how she feels ignored and her parents realize how much they have been neglecting her or b)the middle sister talks about how she feels but she realizes that she hadn't been as ignored/appreciated as she originally thought.

Rainbowheart | 28672 comments Total long shot, but maybe Ramona's World?

Did the book look new when you read it?

message 4: by Georgeana (new)

Georgeana | 26 comments Unfortunately it's not Ramona's World.

I really don't remember if the book looked new. I don't think it would have been published after 2001 based on the books I was reading at the time and the fact I checked out from either my school library or public library but I could be wrong.

message 6: by Georgeana (new)

Georgeana | 26 comments Nope, not that one either.

From what I remember the sisters were not very close, and the middle sister felt like the black sheep of the family. I don't remember that the sisters had the kind of relationship where they could rely on each other, at least not until the end. The book focused on how the middle sister felt lonely and misunderstood by her family.

Thank you for the help so far. It's helping to bring at least a few details I didn't realize I remembered.

Rainbowheart | 28672 comments Confessions of a Middle Child?

The youngest child is a boy, but otherwise it sounds kinda close.

Georgeana | 26 comments Stephanie wrote: "Possibly The Lump in the Middle?"

No, it's not this one. There wasn't any focus on love interests. I think the main character was too young for that.

Nope, not this one either. There were no medical conditions.

Nora | 18 comments Possibly The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy? It's four sisters, but the middle two kind of blur together.

Erin | 15 comments Was it a little house on the Prarie book?

Georgeana | 26 comments Nora wrote: "Possibly The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy? It's four sisters, but the middle two kind of blur together."

No, not this one. There were definitely only three sisters.

Erin wrote: "Was it a little house on the Prarie book?"

No, the book was definitely set in more modern times.

Maybe Yes, Maybe No, Maybe Maybe?"

Unfortunately, none of these are the book I'm trying to find.

Rainbowheart | 28672 comments How old was the youngest sister? Was she a baby or a child?

You're positive it was three sisters, and there wasn't a brother at all?

The youngest sister was around 5-7 years old. I am certain it was three sisters.

S (notrowanfox) | 72 comments i don't remember the name, but i read a book like this before. i think the main character's name was Marigold or something like that, and at the end they put on some sort of play. the book might've been titled "Summer of the (a type of flower)". at some point the youngest sister gets lost in the water at the beach and the older two, who were in a fight, work together to find her and the youngest sister confesses she did it on purpose because she hated when they fought. does this sound familiar?

Unfortunately this does not sound familiar.

Anna | 47 comments Shirley's book sounds like The Forget-Me-Not Summer. I agree that it doesn't sound like Georgeana's book though.

Jane | 9 comments Notes from a Liar and Her Dog by Gennifer Choldenko?

The oldest sister definitely did dance, and the main character has a talk with her mom near the end about feeling ignored.

There are several other books on Goodreads with the same title - have you ruled those out?

I have not but...

...the more I look at this, the more I think Notes from a Liar and Her Dog could be it. I hesitate because I don't remember that there was a dog or that the main character told other people she was adopted. The cover I linked to looks very familiar though.

Here's one of the Google Books previews of Notes from a Liar and Her Dog by Gennifer Choldenko - Jane's suggestion:

https://books.google.com/books?id=cfU... There are different cover images.

Amelie W | 9 comments Could it be "Maybe yes maybe no maybe maybe?" told from the perspective of the middle daughter Peekay who tells stories to her little sister rabbit. They have an older sister who is a teenager and in growing up inls no longer interested in the stories

Georgeana | 26 comments Thank you for reviving this Rainbowheart. I'd somehow missed this thread.

Rainbowheart wrote: "Is Everyone Moonburned but Me?"

Unfortunately this is not the book I'm looking for.

After careful consideration and discussion with my sister (who also read this same book), I do think Notes from a Liar and Her Dog is the book I'm looking for. Thanks Jane for helping me find this. And thanks everyone for all of the suggestions of what this could be, it really helped jog my memory.
