Nominations for Group Reads by Locations

How does it work❓

What do I do❓

✔️Post as a reply a Country where a Mystery Book is set that you would like to read.

✔️Please be sure that the country of your choice has multiple books available that are set in that location, obscure locations may have a limited number of books available which might make it difficult for members to secure a copy of the book.

✔️The country will be selected using a randomizer each month.

✔️A nomination discussion will be open based on that location all our standard nomination rules apply.

✔️Polling will be held along with the rest of our monthly polls.

✔️After a country has been read, it will be ineligible for six months in order to give us some variety.
____________________________________________________
This discussion is only for the country a book is set in.

Once we select a country a nomination discussion for that country will be open and then you can nominate a book set in that country.

Barbara K I’m fond of Nordic Noir, and there is an Icelandic series I’m tempted to try since I’ve heard good things about it. Snowblind is the first in this series by Ragnar Jónasson.

Jamie Zaccaria How many countries can we nominate since this is a running list? If i can add more I'd like to add Malaysia.

Kirsten McKenzie (kirstenmckenzieauthor) | 23 comments Given that I can't travel anywhere anymore (thanks COVID!), can I nominate Italy? I know lots of golden age writers set their books in holiday locations, so I assume that there are plenty of books set in Italy!

Lovely! Sitting at home by the TV waiting for the 3pm announcement to tell us whether our second lockdown ends this week, or whether it will be extended...

PattyMacDotComma | 590 comments I'm very fond of a series that is based in Czechoslovakia, and the same author Graham Brack has a series set in the Netherlands in the 17th century.

I hear you. My husband is a teacher, our school district pushed back the opening of school in favor of distant learning. They still have not decided whether or not they are going to open the campuses after Labor Day. Additionally, he received a call last week in the morning for a meeting two hours later. I'm not sure what these folks are thinking. He's been able to pick up some work in the meantime... so is he supposed to drop a paying client to go to a meeting they just decided to have. It's crazy the world we live in these days.

It's a very good series. Despite being a small country, Iceland has several excellent crime writers - along with Ragnar there's Yrsa Sigurðardóttir, Arnaldur Indriðason, Lilja Sigurðardóttir (no relation), and Sólveig Pálsdóttir

Craig Sisterson (kiwicraig) | 20 comments I'd like to add New Zealand, Ireland, and France.

Each has plenty of great crime writing to choose from.

message 23: by Barbara K (new)

Barbara K I agree about Iceland, Craig. I’ve read a lot of
Arnaldur Indriðason and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir is on my TBR list. The other names are new to me, though, so thanks for the suggestions.
