The main character likes girl in his village and I think they go over the wall together. Turns out their isolated village is actually part of a large experiment to see what people can survive. There are other villages that face different challenges (i.e. climate) as part of the experiment. A high ranking government official is leading an uprising way out in the mountains. The main character's father is the leader or was part of the uprising. I think I read this in the last 3 years or so.
