The three people, all wanted criminals, all have some supernatural abilities. The main character is a man who can see the dead and is working with a woman who's a witch and a man who is a druid and can turn into a bear. The main character has a premonition about something being wrong in New Orleans. While traveling there, an FBI agent obsessed with the main character's case catches their trail and is following them throughout the book. In New Orleans they find refuge with a group of magic people and find that people all over the city are falling into inexplicable commas and then dying. The main character who can see death sees that the souls of the people in the commas are ripped to shreds and then sees creatures (invisible to everyone else) feeding on the souls. They work together to find out who/what is controlling the invisible soul-eating creatures.
