Adam was the kind of kid who always kept to himself and his demons. He never really got in to the making friends scene, even when the people close to him did. He always defined himself with being an introvert, but the demons of his past put a weight on his shoulders. The only thing he cared much about was his little sister.
He is a very angry person, which can be alarming in terms of the danger of him lashing out, so he uses everything he can to control his impulses, before it's too late for him. He finds ways to avoid the situations that make him angry, in his attempts to remain calm, but as the times continue to get darker, he only gets further away from who he was.
Despite his strong impulse control, hero complex, and love for his sister, Adam is indefinitely a sad person, filled with emotional turmoil from his past that may make him seem hard in heart. It may seem to some that he is stone-cold, but it's hard to see the light when the darkness touches his memories. He has the demeanor a war veteran, as well as the dark humor of one. His humor rarely shows, but his lighthearted moments are the best times to be around him.
{History}
From a young age, Adam had to learn bravery. He had to learn to protect his mother and sister before he understood anything about why. The world was always dangerous, but it seemed their father could be more dangerous. Many times his dad would come home drunk, and even at the age of five Adam knew all the best places to hide his three year old sister, and would let his dad beat him bloody and still refuse to give her up. By six her tried to shut out his sister and mom, hoping it would hurt them less to know what he endured if he wasn't so close. He quickly learned that pushing them away was just as painful.
He was ten the first time their dad found his sister. As she got bigger, she was harder to hide. Adam made a decision long before that moment to get a gun, but he kept it well hidden, moving it constantly. He tried to watch as his sister got hit, knowing he could comfort her. That he could do better next time, but she went limp, and his father kept swinging. In that moment, Adam took it on himself to do whatever it took for his mom and his sister. It took five shots. Five shots before he was sure that they were rid of the evil that had plagued their family for so long.
A lot of hospital visits to his sister and getting checked up himself, a lot more lawyers, and triple the therapy, but life went on. His sister never saw what happened, and they'd managed to keep it from her. They said their mom called the police and when the police showed they opened fire. He would never tell her any differently.
Into his teen years he got lost in it all. His past, his scars. He could never completely heal himself from his father, both physically and mentally. It was the nightmares of gunshots, and the look on his sister's face every time it got too loud and she glanced at the closet as if she would have to hide again. Five years had passed, but the terror sat like it was yesterday. He found himself in the wrong groups of people in a feeble attempt to save his impoverished family after his mom started self medicating. He was fifteen, selling and using drugs to get by. He found a family in gang affiliation. A family who would protect his own. So when it came to pot, it didn't seem all that bad. He just needed to escape everything that had come to pass.
It went on that way for three years. Their mother deteriorated, and he kept doing what he could to keep them afloat in their trailer home with no heat and barely any electricity. The world started changing. It felt as if he was living in a sci-fi novel when the news was filled with bad guys and super powers. He did what he could to ignore it, meaning more drugs. He was eighteen when he found their mother dead on the floor from an overdose. In that moment he knew his options were to change or lose the only person that mattered to him. So he fled. He became his sister's legal guardian after hundreds of fights and refusing to leave her side. They left the city, and he kept moving. The world would never be the same, but nothing could take them apart.

Adam struggles with mental health problems, mostly PTSD but fairly severe depression as well.

He's never had time to worry about it.

Had to create myself as a cartoon character for theatre so here it is
{Describe your character’s physical appearance including clothing, hair, etc.}
Along with a keen eye for flannels, my character would always be rocking graphic tees and jeans. A frequent flyer of stereotypical short scene-boy cut hair changing colors every other episode from one dramatic to the next. (Things like scarlet to yellow to pink.) I would always be wearing beanies so you can only see the shwoopy front of my hair. I would be average size, not super noticeable among other characters aside from the extreme hair colors.
{How do you talk to other characters?}
Probably keeping a general bad attitude and dark humor, I’d be the character that always has the random shadow of them that comes from no where, which is to say I’m kind of snappy and don’t light up when talking to other characters all that much. I’m generally pretty quiet. In general, the only provided comedic relief comes from jokes that would probably get me sent to hell for saying and you send to hell for laughing at.
{What are some of your most outstanding or noticeable habits?}
My character would be one to consistently touch my hair, or mess with my beanies and earrings.
{Do you work alone or with others? Describe how both might look.}
Although I’d prefer to work alone, when I work with others I tend to be controlling and take over the whole project or task at hand. A caricature of a control freak, whilst still being broody and attitude-y. When someone puts me back in my place, I shut down and don’t help at all.
{Do you have a nemesis or recurring problem you must deal with?}
My nemesis is everyone. I’m the character that people only come to for queer questions, and I probably live in the scary house that kids do what they can to run past as fast as they can.
{What is your best trait?}
I have a strong sense of humor, can find a good chuckle in everything. I’m very passionate and defensive and even though I hate everyone, I’ll stand up for the people being treated poorly.
{What is your characters worse trait?}
I hate every other character and young children are scared of me. I can get irritated quickly and also irritating just as quickly. It’s frickin bats I love Halloween.
{What makes you a unique character?}
I am gender ambiguous and it is never mentioned who I am. I always have a shadow over me even in the sunlight. My laugh is bland and monotonous. Just like my voice. Ha. Ha. Ha.
