Bree Lamb | 5 comments I can't recall character names, but I know that the main character lived with his parents and older brother in the US, near a big cat rescue/tiger rescue? I honestly don't recall. Near the beginning of the book he and his father have a discussion about him becoming vegetarian/vegan, where his father reminds him he'll also need to give up eggs, and his leather belt and boots as well. Either a couple of chapters before this or after the town also finds someone spray painted a swastika on the school. Later on the boy finds a hunting farm with endangered species on it, one of them being sun bears, and talks about what they're used for in Chinese herbal medicine. Near the end of the book his brother is in jail (I think for his part in some of what occurred?), and his mother is upset because she feels he put them there and she has stopped talking to the younger son, essentially just feeding him. He mentioned someone about going away to college as well near the end I believe due to the issues that had occurred and were going on at home.

Bree, I added some plot details to the topic header, so your book might be recognized from the header alone. Feel free to update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website – not the Mobile website or app.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5557 comments Sniper by Theodore Taylor? The boy's family own a wildlife preserve and leave him in charge when they go on holiday, then poachers / snipers turn up. The reviews mention big cats but not sure if the other details match.

Honestly, the only reason why I thought to look at his other books is the name and plot sounded familiar, and when I saw the title it clicked! And I made some very happy squealing noises that alarmed people.
