Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments Hello, people, just to lighten the load for Nataliya a bit, I decided to create the first thread so that we can clock in for our Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman discussion.

Saski (sissah) | 267 comments I'm here and ready.

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments Yaye. I'm only starting the book now for the first time, so this will be quite an experience for me. I seem to be the only person in the world who hasn't read Neverwhere yet.

Saski (sissah) | 267 comments I haven't read it! You are not alone! :D

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments Aahh, a Neverwhere virgin buddy at last! :D

Saski (sissah) | 267 comments Buddy, definitely. Virgin.... hmmmm. :D

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments I wonder if Nataliya would mind if we made some initial remarks. Such as, that this feels a lot like Mieville's London in many ways, but it flows so much more easily, and so far, i have a good idea of what's going on, although admittedly i loved the start of Kraken and look what happened with that....

Also, spotted Gaiman's Subby and Goss! :P

Puddin Pointy-Toes (jkingweb) | 201 comments Second time around for me. Slowly easing my way into it, but already it's already a breeze compared to soul-crushing Kraken. I'll hold off commenting for now, though. I want to refresh my memory a bit more first.

Derek (derek_broughton) | 762 comments Aww. I thought we had a new commenter, but Puddin Pointy-Toes' picture looks awfully familiar.

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments Don't worry, Puddin, i for one am happy to see you, okay? ROFL.

Puddin Pointy-Toes (jkingweb) | 201 comments Sorry, Derek. I was told by a young savant much more knowledgeable than me that my elf name was Pudding Pointy-Toes. Given this erudite pronouncement, I simply had no choice but to adjust my personal identity accordingly. You understand.

Annie (aschoate) | 78 comments Im here and ready to rumble.

Saski (sissah) | 267 comments Definitely, Puddin'! I wish a young savant would let me know what my elfen name is.

Congrats!

Derek (derek_broughton) | 762 comments Hmmm. I think that might not have come out right. It's not that I'm disappointed you're here Pudding! It's always good to have new voices, though.

Nataliya | 378 comments Alright, real-life work is over for today and I'm starting a Neverwhere thread in the next few minutes! Excited!

Allen (allenblair) | 227 comments Ha ha ... Soul crushing Kraken! You're right, definitely not that. I rather enjoyed it the first time through and am looking forward to discovering what I probably missed. Also reminded me of Mieville's London but with a breezy feel where I didn't have to reach for the dictionary every few pages. Not a put down, just different.

Nataliya | 378 comments Alright. Thread 1: Prologue to Chapter 5 is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Magdelanye | 174 comments ok okay
just in the nuck of time the library has come across and i just picked it up to join the discussion

Derek (derek_broughton) | 762 comments Yeah, I totally get the not having to reach for the dictionary!

Salem Salem | 7 comments I'm in. (I read it in December).

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments Oh, goodie! We've got the usual suspects +1.

There you go, Derek, a new voice in the form of Salem!

You are very welcome, Salem - we have already started posting away here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

What? They still haven't solved the Gap? (For those who don't get the reference, see chapter 6...)

Bill Green (my_name_is_bill) Hello everyone,
I've followed the threads; my whole participation. I love most of Meiville's work.
I haven't read Gaiman's 'Neverwhere' for years, can't remember much; but I do remember that I loved it. Reminiscent of another favorite of mine - Veniss Underground by Jeff Vandermeer.
If you like 'Neverwhere'; you will like Vandermeer's work. Maybe a comparative analysis for future?
