SOLVED. Children's/YA fantasy with girl and prince who go on an adventure and are captured and enslaved but escape, etc. [s]

This was a fantasy book with a medieval type of setting that I read in the 90s that was either a children's or young adult book. Age range was about 12 and older. There was a young girl, likely a teen, who meets a prince. They travel together on an adventure to different places. In a foreign country, they are captured and enslaved to different slave owners. They eventually escape and fall in love and sleep together on their journey back to the prince's kingdom. The prince wants to marry the girl, but since she is a commoner, she doesn't feel welcome by the king and queen. She also doesn't feel like a royal life is the life she wants, so she runs away from the castle. She lives alone in a small house and has the prince's baby. The prince eventually finds her and they live happily ever after. I don't remember even one word of the title nor the author. It is possible the book was written in the 80s or 90s. Also, if it helps, at the time I read this I was particularly attracted to very elaborate and beautiful book covers, so this book likely had such a cover.
