I have been running errands all morning and was thinking about the quiz. I remember reading that Emily Dickinson's father, Edward, was a politician in Massachusetts, but I thought he was a State Senator, not a U.S. Senator. That's the only N.E. author I could really think of who had a father in politics. I may have forgotten about whether he was a local or a U.S. senator, so I am going to go with Emily Dickinson.
