And we have a winner!!! Thoreau's campfire went out of control on April 30th, 1844, a year before he went to live at Walden. Here is a really good article about it if anyone is interested. It includes Thoreau's own account of the fire from his journal, and is very characteristic of him.

I believe that they are. Not all are evil, of course. My Great Grandfather was murdered on his way home from work. Not long after, his daughter (my grandmother,) just a little girl, saw him. She was frightened and ran away. She felt bad afterward. Never saw him again.
I have felt some of our pets. (Mega Fish will tell you it was my imagination, but I know what I felt.)

message 4075: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments Letting everyone know the storm has passed my area. 46 mph winds hammered us, and we had 9.12 inches of rain! My basement got wet, but the French drain took it out. It's still very wet, but not flooded down there. Some rain blew in under the slate roof, but did no damage. I was terrified, but kept praying all day. Our lights flickered several times, but the power held. Thousands are without power, though. It has not yet been confirmed, but it is believed a tornado touched down in my county, too! It blew the roof off a day care and flipped cars over. Trees and wires are down everywhere and many roads are closed due to serious flooding. It was terrible, but I made it through!

I haven't eaten much today. I was too nervous. Now I'm going to test my blood sugar and eat supper. I'll be back later. Thank you so much for your prayers! I know The Lord hears and he surely answers! Talk to you in a little while. I see I have many comments to read through to catch up!

Feeling thankful for many reasons, but mostly for all of you!

Pammy Jo

Oh Pamela, that sounds like a terrible storm! I'm so thankful you got through with so little damage. 9.2 inches!! That is about the amount of water that is in our snowpack every year come spring, and yes, we get flooding when it melts, even when it is gradual over the course of a month. Can't imagine what it would be like to get that much in a day!
So glad you're alright! 🤗

message 4078: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments I just watched the Allentown news. They said the wind gusts actually topped 60 mph! I knew it was bad, but didn't realize it was that high! The flooding is so bad in this area that Stop signs are almost completely covered with water and rescue teams are all over the place doing water rescues. It was scary, watching the news! I was so busy taking care of my property that I didn't realize how bad it was nearby. I did hear sirens all day and fire trucks were going past my house all day, too. I feel so bad for the people who needed help!

I'm glad to be back online! Wasn't very hungry, so had some cold fried chicken and a corn muffin. Thank you so much for caring and praying!

Pammy Jo

*all right

9.2! That's a lot of rain, Pamela! It's a miracle in itself that you aren't flooded!
