That's a logical guess, Ruth! One article I read said he was counting rings at night in a rainstorm, but I would think that would be pretty hard!

What happens in chapter 9 of Huckleberry Finn to symbolize Noah's flood?
I just learned this today from taking that online Twain course from Hillsdale College.

Yep, great question Hansie, but I'll be sitting this one out. I hate to admit it, but I've never read any Mark Twain. 🤐

Yes, that makes sense, Sarah! Personally I have no problem with reading a book by an author with a different view point as long as I know where my own faith stands and there is nothing immoral in the work (there are a couple of Twain stories that I'm pretty leery of reading, judging by the titles though).

Hi Sarah,
You make an interesting point.
It is good to question things, to question
God, because it leads to understanding-
just as a child does when they see a world
they don't understand, they need to know
why. This is how we learn in our personal
growth, even God instructs us- he who lacks
wisdom, let him ask. Asking leads knowing,
personal knowledge of Him.
On the other hand, to question as in to doubt
and blame leads to cynicism, which is another
form of mockery and contempt.
Mark Twain may have attended church and knew
about God, but he spoke of what he believed,
ergo a cynic.

Which daughter?
He was close to his oldest.

Very sad.

I thinkg she's going to let us mull over this one a bit longer! 😅
