Hannah Alane | 662 comments Isn't that The Raven by Poe? I need to go back and read what it's about though - been forever!!

Is it just me or do you too forget he's American and mistakenly think he's a British author? I think it's because his works are so much more dramatic and....morbid compared to Hawthorne or Longfellow. Poe's works remind me of Mary Shelley or a similar gothic author.

Actually, her Frankenstein is great! I read it for British Lit one year and then did a study guide from Progeny Press. Like you, I was unsure about her writings, but the study guide brought out lots of great morals and lessons we can learn from her story telling.

Hannah, I haven't come across that, he being mistaken
for being British; however, he was the American Gothic.

At the end of his life, he was found wondering the streets
in someone else's saying, "God have mercy on my poor soul".
A man named "Walker arrived at Gunner's Hall, he found a man, delirious and dressed in shabby second-hand clothes, lying in the gutter. The man was semi-conscious, and unable to move, but as Walker approached the him, he discovered something unexpected: the man was Edgar Allan Poe.
"...e never regained enough consciousness to explain how he had come to be found, in soiled clothes not his own, incoherent on the streets. Instead, Poe spent his final days wavering between fits of delirium, gripped by visual hallucinations. The night before his death, according to his attending physician Dr. John J. Moran, Poe repeatedly called out for "Reynolds"—a figure who, to this day, remains a mystery"

Interesting, n'est ce pas? Quite sad.

Oh, ha sorry for the confusion. I meant if anyone else had a problem with remembering he was American instead of just me.

What a sad life! No wonder he wrote such dark, somber stories!

The Raven and the Tell-Tale Heart are the most
common, especially in school curriculum.
Annabel Lee is a beautiful poem.

Joanna Pamela - welcome to the group!! It's wonderful to have another active member. 😊 I actually just returned from PA...we were in the NW part of the state, near Punxatawney and then Hermitage near the OH border. So I experienced your heat first-hand! 😄
I need to do some research about this comet. I hadn't heard anything about it but when we left early last Monday it was still dark and I noticed something very bright in the sky with a tail. It actually occurred to me that it looked like a comet but I told myself I was crazy and didn't even point it out to my dad! A few days later we were visiting with my aunt and she said something about this comet that was supposed to be visible...my ears really perked up! 🤣

message 2434: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Alane | 662 comments Oh Meg, we're all so jealous you saw the comet!

Yes, Pamela you've been such a fun new addition to the group! We've so enjoyed your participation....and we're glad we didn't scare you away with our crazy antics. I mean, when Meg's away, what can you expect?

Which, BY THE WAY, Dorothy did NOTHING to control us, Meg! I think she should be fired as sub-moderator.

Hi Meg!
I've been enjoying this group so much!
After watcing every night, I still haven't seen the comet. Where did you see it? In what part of the sky? I'm going to try to see it again tonight!
I've discovered that this group has lots of lively ladies...We were all rather bad and got off-topic quite often while you were gone. It won't do to fire Dorothy. She tried very hard to control us, but I'm afraid that's an impossible task!
Seriously, I am having a great time in this group! I look forward to getting to know you!

NOT LIKE CATS???!!! Who ever heard such nonsense?!
I actually have a sweatshirt which says "Sorry, I can't...I have plans with my cat!" I've been tempted to actually say that a time or two, but have not yet had the nerve to do it! With me, it really is the truth and it IS all about the cat!
Pammy Jo
(shall we add "Crazy Cat Lady" to my growing list of names?)

I used to be called "The Cat Lady" Pamela, so I can relate! I still ADORE cats and have 3, (😳) I've just discovered dogs in the past few years. 😂 My Mandie is just so precious to me!

Ruth,
I missed your comment earlier. I am a tea addict and have a pitcher of home brewed tea in the fridge at all times...sadly, I have to dilute it quite a bit because of doctor's orders. He says it's not good for me because of my kidney failure, but I say if I'm going to leave this world, I want it to be with a glass of tea in one hand and a book in my other hand! (and a cat on my lap, of course!)
