I did not go to bed. I was distracted by a celestial being! Actually, by a neighbor and a comet...sorry!
I'm a night owl AND an early bird. Usually don't turn in until at least midnight and ALWAYS awake around 4:00 a.m. I've been like that since childhood and it drove my parents nuts! I just never needed much sleep. Just one of my many odd quirks!

Emma | meadowroselibrary Oh I'm sorry you never saw the comet Pamela!! That would've been really neat!
That's very interesting about you not sleeping much! 😂 Well everyone just sleeps different I guess! 😜

So I was thinking last night Pamela, and Ruth told me to decide what we should de, since you, Ruth, and I all tied. I thought since you haven't quizzed us yet, you should do the next quiz! **hope you're okay with that Ruthie!!😬🤐** 😜😂

Yeah we're night owls on here... Some more than others... But I make sure everyone still gets to bed at a decent time.😊😋

Pam is fine...several of my friends call me Pammy Jo. Whatever you'd like. No matter what, I'm sure I've been called worse! : )

a comet siting on the night you gave a
Mark Twain answer.

Good question.
Meg would love it.
In fact, the best way to get her attention
is to mention Hawthorne-
it's her bat signal. H 🔦

I haven't read it.

Yes, I thought of it last night...Twain came in with Halley's comet and he went out with it. Just as he predicted!

It is interesting how he prognosticated
death with Hailey's Comet.

I think I may know, but only because I did some "researching" online. So I'll wait a little bit to give an answer and see if anyone else will guess.

message 1933: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Alane | 662 comments And I've also never read the book, so I can only guess what the climax might be.

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments A fire
and
"Meat, coffee, tea, and butter were no longer offered"

Before the pots and kettles begin an uproar,
I shall follow Doreen's example- sit back with a cup
of coffee and wait on you slow-pokes.
Cheers, Doreen! ☕☕

Emma | meadowroselibrary You can say that again...

message 1941: by Ruth (last edited Jul 18, 2020 12:28PM) (new)

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments I do recall Hawthorne was involved in
a failing transcendentalist socialist experiment.

Any society where
"Meat, coffee, tea, and butter were no longer offered"
hasn't any sense and is a recipe for failure.

Pamela | 2209 comments Oh dear, I've come up with a question which has driven fine people to "cheat"...I fully expect to be impeached from the group now! Will I be forgiven, or will I be exiled??

When should I post the answer?

To change from New England to Southern literature, all I can say in my defense is Fiddledeedee...Tomorrow is another day!

"Pammy Jo"

Hahaha, we've ALL been in the corner for cheating....except maybe Ruth and Dorothy. They're the mature ones of the group.

message 1946: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Alane | 662 comments So I'm gonna posts my answer since no one else is really guessing -

Zenobia's death in the book seems to be inspired by the real life suicide of Martha Hunt - whom Hawthorne later tried to help find the body.

That's my final answer....because I have no others!!!
