Early American Authors Quiz Game

She is! I just finished it and put my review up. It started very slow for me, and the time period wasn't my "cup of tea," but I did end up enjoying it.

In the early morning of November 23, 1963, Sid Davis of Westinghouse Broadcasting reported the arrival of President John F. Kennedy's casket at the White House. Davis concluded his report with a passage from a poem but was overcome with emotion as he signed off. He only recited the last few lines of the poem.
The poet was one of President Kennedy's favorites. So was the poem. Can you name the poet and the poem?

Thank you, Pammy! The "reclusive" was what gave it away to me, since it was fairly fresh in my memory from a recent quiz.
Dorothy, since you successfully answered the previous question, you get to ask the next one. :-)
i don't know whether this issue has been addressed yet (I haven't read back over the entire thread!); but to make the quiz more challenging, let's make it a rule that you can't look up the answer online. ;-)

Whoops, I just realized that I was the one people were waiting on all this time. 😳 I will try to get one on later today.

Well, my mom collects stamps and has all that were issued by the USPS since the 1840's. In 1940, the Famous Americans Stamps were issued. Among them were:
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
~Louisa May Alcott
~Samuel L. Clemens
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
~James Russell Lowell
~John Greenleaf Whittier
My mom also has the 2007 stamp in question. Her stamp books include information/facts about each stamp. The author in question was actually born on February 27, 1807, but the stamp was first released on March 15, 2007 in New York, NY, commemorating the author's 200th birthday. 30,000,000 stamps were issued for the anniversary of his birth.
I did not Google the info, but had access to it in the stamp book.
My answer: HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW
(I do apologize for taking so long to get to the answer!)😱😉😁😂🤣😃😄
