Pamela | 2209 comments I pretty sure I know this one! I have an interest in early photography and have quite a few books related to the subject. I believe the answer is Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
I've even had the chance to use original stereoscopic viewers during my Civil War reenacting days. Very interesting!

You are correct, Pammy Jo! 🥳🎊🎊🎊🎊 That's really neat that you've actually used one! I was amazed to read how inventive Holmes was!

Pamela | 2209 comments I have had a question in mind, so here it is:

This author wrote a poem which became a popular Christmas Carol. He wrote the poem when he was in deep despair because his son had recently been severely wounded in battle during the Civil War.

Name the author and the song.

Joanna I actually just learned about this last winter. My dad and I were walking along a sidewalk in Miramichi, NB, and the Bing Crosby recording was playing from a louspeaker. My dad said, "Isn't that Longfellow?" I couldn't believe I didn't know! 🤦‍♀️

It's not one of my favorites, but I thought it would be a good question, in keeping with the Christmas season. My favorite religious Christmas song is "O Holy Night" and my favorite secular one is "Silver Bells."

I love the poem, but not really the way Bing Crosby sings it. 😂 O Holy Night is beautiful!

Is Miramichi near Prince Edward Island?

Joanna Pamela wrote: "Is Miramichi near Prince Edward Island?"

It's a little north of PEI. I'm not sure what the distance is...I don't think it's that far as the crow flies, but you have to go quite a ways further south to take the bridge across to the island.

I love to sing O Holy Night. It really is beautiful! My favorite Christmas music has always been songs performed by choirs and by orchestras. I really like the Vienna Boys' Choir Christmas albums! The London Symphony Orchestra has recorded many great Christmas albums, too!

message 13497: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments One of my favorite places places to visit, especially during the holidays, is The National Shrine Of Our Lady Of Czestochowa which is very close to my home. They often host choirs, many from Poland. It's such a beautiful church! They celebrate Mass in English and Polish. The gift shop is wonderful, too. Many products are imported from Poland and the Christmas candy from Poland is sooo good!

Joanna That's wonderful, Pammy Jo! 😊 I love playing O Holy Night on the harp, but I can't sing it. 😂 I'll have to look up the London Symphony Orchestra's recordings. I think they are the ones who did my favorite recording of Beethoven's 5th symphony.

Another one of my favorites is The Choir of King's College, Cambridge, United Kingdom. If you get a chance, look them up online. Simply beautiful! I also forgot to mention another one of my favorite Carols is The Holly and the Ivy. During the holidays, I often find myself singing it around the house to my cats. They are the best audience! Never critical and always attentive! LOL!!! 🎶🐱🐈💞
