Joanna Well, this is going to be soooo easy, but it's the best I can think of at the moment and I want to get back outside before it gets dark (it's so strange to be having summer temps but getting dark at 4 PM! 😳).
Which NE author was better known as a gardener during their lifetime?

Don't remember what you were wearing yesterday??? Most times, after I'm in my pajamas, I don't remember where I put the clothing I was wearing during the day! I lost my mind long ago and I am making no effort to look for it! 🤪😀😂🤣😃😄😅😆😉😊

Pamela | 2209 comments Here's my Quiz question:

Grandfather of a U.S. Vice President, this philosopher and theologian is well known for his books which inspired thousands of missionaries during the 19th century. He was a staunch supporter of smallpox vaccines. Ironically, he died as a result of receiving a smallpox inoculation. Name the man.

I'm thinking I should add a Goodreads shelf called "My Methuselah Shelf" (aka: The books I want to read assuming I live to be 969 years old) 😆 That's about how bad it's getting for me! I want to read SOOO many books!

A hint: The author was married to the daughter of the founder of Yale College. Ironically, the author's daughter died less than a month after her father...of smallpox. So much for having confidence in vaccines.

Emma | meadowroselibrary Yeah, vaccines don't work!! I was vaccinated years ago for whooping cough... I STILL GOT IT!! And really bad!! I seriously thought I was going to die.

Forgive me for my outburst. 😂

Every vaccine I have ever gotten caused me to become very sick. After I got the measles vaccine as a child, I got measles. My parents thought I was going to die. Even the flu shot caused me to get the flu! I sure hope they don't make the Covid vaccine mandatory. Every year, my mom's doctor tells her she should get a flu shot. She always tells him she "refuses to have foreign substances injected into her body!" 😆

Yeah, we've not done vaccines for years and years. We used to, but they don't work, you still get sick, and the stuff they make those things with...😳
Yeah, we hope not too. 😒 I've already had it, so they'd better not!! 🤣

Pamela | 2209 comments Another clue:

The author in question had a grandson who was accused of one of the gravest crimes in American law. He was tried and acquitted of the crime, but lived in disgrace for the rest of his life. The author himself was thought of as one of the most honorable men of his time.

message 12577: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments In addition, prior to his treason trial, the grandson of the author was accused of another serious crime, but was never brought to trial for that offense. All of that scandal, and the grandson once held the second highest political office in the United States. Thankfully, the author I am looking for as the quiz answer did not live to see all of that shame.

message 12578: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments A quote from the author I am looking for as the quiz answer:

"Resolved, never to do anything which I should be afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life."

Emma | meadowroselibrary That's what I was going to guess... 🤔

message 12581: by Pamela (new)

Yes, and they sound so familiar, but I'm afraid I'm 🌳🪓.

message 12587: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments The author's father-in-law founded Yale College. The author in question entered Yale just before his 13th birthday. He was a child prodigy.

Joanna Jonathan Edwards?

message 12592: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments Meg wrote: "Jonathan Edwards?"

And we have a winner! Meg is correct! The answer is Jonathan Edwards. 👸💃👍👌👏🤝🌹🏆🥇🎈🎉🎊🤸‍♀️🙂🙂🙂

You know me, I like to do questions that are a bit difficult.🤯 Sorry about that, but I think it is a learning opportunity, which often enlightens me, too. I love to research the subject and give extra clues! Aaron Burr was Jonathon Edwards' grandson. Of course, Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel, but was not tried for the murder. He WAS brought to trial on unrelated charges of treason later, but was found innocent. It ruined him, nevertheless. Jonathan Edwards was the complete opposite of his grandson.

message 12593: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments Aaron Burr served as Vice President during Thomas Jefferson's first term in office. So, we've always had some "questionable characters" in positions of power. Things really don't change all that much, do they? I was watching an old game show on TV the other night. The contestant had to finish the line: "Martians landed on Earth and were shocked to find no intelligent life. They landed in _____________." Every single person filled in the blank with Washington D.C. 😉 Sad, but often so true!
