According to Pennsylvania facts, there are 5 distinct dialects within PA. Where I live, there are Philly accents and PA Dutch accents. I worked with a woman from Central PA who had her own accent and localisms. Instead of saying "Are you going to the store for soda?" she said "Are you'uns going to the store for pop?" When I went out west, shopping bags were called sacks. I have friends from Louisville, KY who call all soda Coke, even if it's 7-Up or ginger ale...it's all Coke to them. Even in the south, there are different accents. Virginia is different from Georgia. Alabama is unique and so is Texas. In PA they say you can tell which part of the state a person is from by how they say "water". My favorite accent is the New England accent. Maine has an accent entirely it's own. New Jersey does, too. That's all I know about that.

I went to a meeting for my local Historical Society one time and a group of men sitting near me were telling inappropriate jokes in PA Dutch. I know the language and I commented about their jokes, speaking in PA Dutch. The entire group immediately turned beet red and instantly became silent! It was hilarious!😀😁😂🤣😆😊🤫
