I'm going to agree with Emma on this one. Hawthorne was very dark and serious. One of his ancestors was a judge at the Salem Witch Trials, which bothered Hawthorne enough for him to change his name, though, adding a w. Maybe it wasn't him, but I'm still going to guess Hawthorne

It just occurred to me that Longfellow studied law before turning to writing as a career. He did not want to be a lawyer but his father pushed for it. Longfellow took up serious writing in his post-graduate years. Perhaps he was called "Judge." π€π€π€ Now I am stumpified...aka Ferhoodled and Ferhext, by the question.π€Pammy Jo
Then, of course, there is Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. who, in fact became one of the most famous Judges of all time. I have read much about him, but can't recall ever reading that he was known as "Judge" prior to becoming one.π€π€¨π€―π³π€ͺ I am officially confused and uncertain....and it is all your fault, Meg! I was certain it was Hawthorne until I started thinking. An ex-significant other used to say "You think too much Pamela!"
