Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments It seems to describe Thoreau and
Longfellow

Hehe, I can see the Thoreau resemblance for sure. 😂 But the name starts with B., and rhymes with client...

😂 Yes, it's Bryant!! Now don't let Lowell's satire discourage anyone from reading him (Bryant)...he wrote some beautiful poetry! 😊

was the first to use the typewriter
and several adventures came from it.

Emma | meadowroselibrary Ralph Waldo Emerson? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Joanna Hannah wrote: "HAHA, Meg! Jinx!"

That's so funny! Great minds think alike...only it seems like the great minds thought wrong this time! 😂

message 64: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Alane | 662 comments The only other one I can think of would be Melville.

Is it cheating to look up what date the typewriter was invented and then see which authors were alive during that time? EITHER WAY, IT DIDN'T HELP ME WITH MY FIRST GUESS! Hahahahaha!!!

Maybe we can get the answer right next time, Meg!

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments The “new fangled writing machine” was purchased in
1875 and set to work on his manuscript for
Life on the Mississippi.
He later recanted the new early marvel stating:
"That early machine was full of caprices, full of defects—devilish ones…  After a year or two I found that it was degrading my character..." 😄
The classic humor of Mark Twain
Good guess, Meg, the ball is in your court.

I thought the words sarcasm and adventures
gave it away. 🙊-heehee

"To know, what you know..." etc.
Emma's favorite quote.

Yes, he was talking about Emerson! Hawthorne seemed to have a higher opinion of Thoreau, although he was on friendly terms with both of them.
