For the life of me the only names I can think of are male authors! 🤣

message 9857: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments The author I'm looking for lived in Massachusetts and had a name much like another famous writer...Same name as an author from the 19th Century...Famous Female Author...Not necessarily from the U.S.

Joanna Elizabeth Gaskell, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, Charlotte Bronte, Anne Bronte...🤔

Emma | meadowroselibrary Meg wrote: "Elizabeth Gaskell, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, Charlotte Bronte, Anne Bronte...🤔"

She said the author's name was the same as a VERY famous author's name, that it wasn't nessecraily an American author, therefore I presume a British author. And those are all I can thik of! 🤣

message 9861: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments The author's father left behind a large archive of historical documents from the Pilgrims, but the papers are now missing. Her brother also wrote a book about the Pilgrims. She was educated in private schools in Boston. She could trace 8 family lines back to the Pilgrims. She also wrote magazine stories and poems. She also wrote about Revolutionary War history. That is all I have to say about that!🤣😂😉🤗

Joanna Here's Pammy's question...

This Massachusetts author became known for historical novels about their Plymouth Colony ancestors. Name the author.

You should have gone with Jane Austen, Meg! Now I have basically given you the author I am looking for. The last name is spelled differently. Can you guess who it is? I really thought you would know, as she wrote almost exclusively about her Pilgrim ancestors.

Whew! I finally found her, but that wasn't easy! Even Google assumed I was just spelling the British Jane Austen's name wrong! 😂 Jane Goodwin Austin...how could I not have known about her??!!

message 9891: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments TA-DA!!!! Meg finally figured it out!! Jane Goodwin Austin is correct!!! 👏🤝😀😁😊🤗🎉🎈🏆🥇♥️🤸‍♀️🤹‍♀️🎊😍🤩🙂

She had many ancestors connected to the Pilgrims and wrote some interesting stories about them! I think my questions are too difficult. I am sorry. At least you know about Jane Austin now. I think you would like her writing!

Joanna For once I have a question ready! 😁 Which NE author called Thoreau's 'Walden', "very wicked and heathenish" and said that "the practical moral of it seems to be that if a man is willing to sink himself into a woodchuck he can live as cheaply as that quadruped"?

Emma | meadowroselibrary Meg wrote: "For once I have a question ready! 😁 Which NE author called Thoreau's 'Walden', "very wicked and heathenish" and said that "the practical moral of it seems to be that if a man is willing to sink him..."

😄-Haha! Wow, that is a scathing
comment.

"...if a man is willing to sink himself into a woodchuck..."
I love that line.
