Pamela | 2209 comments It's 41 here. At least it is sunny! Lots of birds, too! I have the sweetest pair of doves outside. They walk right up to me! They were born here this Summer and remain on my property. I named them Lovey & Dovey! When we had our Pocono home, there was a pair of Trumpeter Swans at the lake across the street...they were so beautiful! Many birds mate for life and mourn deeply if their mate dies. I've witnessed it many times. Nature is amazing!

That is sweet, Pammy Jo! I've always loved birds. When Dorry and I were really little a pair of cardinals made their nest in a bush right outside our bedroom window. So we got to watch the chicks hatch and grow up. That was special!

They say that when you see a Cardinal, it represents a deceased loved one watching over you. The Robin is associated with stories of Christ's birth and also with his death.

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments Hi Pammy
We usually have a pair of Cardinals and Robins
neither of which have been around for a while.
A family of Blue Jays has dominated our trees,
unfortunately, a young bird was a prey to a Hawk.

I am shocked! 😳I simply figured it was a famous work released after Melville's death, but also considered saying Emily Dickinson until I realized you said "his death" which ruled her out! Billy Budd was considered to be Melville's second best work, after Moby Dick. Well, I shall try thumping my head now so that I can think of the next question!πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

We have hawks here and Blue Jays, too. They are pretty, but quite nasty. I have seen a Blue Jay peck a wren on it's head and kill it. Not nice behavior at all.

Not nearly as well known as Hawthorne

message 9834: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments This might be a difficult question, so I will give a hint...

The author had a name VERY much like another VERY famous 19th Century author.

Well, my clue should give it away. The other VERY FAMOUS author I'm talking about is not necessarily an American author. Thump yourself on the head and you might think of the answer.πŸ™†β€β™€οΈπŸ”¨πŸ˜„
