Sarcasm, Emily, pure sarcasm.

Isn't it amazing that Benjamin Franklin never had any of his inventions patented? He didn't want to make a profit from them. He preferred that all people benefited from them. Living close to Philadelphia my entire life, I have always greatly admired Franklin. The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia is an amazing place!

TOO LATE! WHILE I WAS TYPING, ALLYSON GUESSED CORRECTLY!! SORRY!

I declare Allyson the winner, as she was the first to correctly answer BOTH parts of my question!
Mark Twain invented a "Garment Fastener" aka an adjustable elastic strap. His intent was that it would be used by men instead of suspenders, which Twain disliked wearing. It was not well received by the public. However, during World War One, many women began to work in factories, producing products for the War. They found corsets to be entirely too cumbersome while performing their jobs. Twain's "Garment Fastener" was used in the creation of adjustable bra straps, across the ladies' backs. The modern bra was created and the rest is history! ππ€π« I have disliked the uncomfortable things my entire life!!! LOL!!!
So, that's the scoop on that! CONGRATULATIONS ALLYSON!!!!

I know! That was very noble of him!! I have always loved learning about him, he lived such an amazing and interesting life - and during my favorite time period! π

Yay!!!!!! πππππππ I actually had no idea that Twain was an inventer!!!

Have you been to Philadelphia? There are so many historic sites there, many related to Benjamin Franklin. The historic district is only a 50 minute drive from my home. Whenever I stand in front of Independence Hall, I am moved to tears to think of the meaning of that relatively small area. It's very emotional to walk in the footsteps of our Founding Fathers. Even though I tease about being a Tory, I do love the history of our nation and what it stands for. I'm just very disheartened by what is becoming of our wonderful country. Another place that makes me feel very emotional is the Gettysburg battlefield. I find myself getting choked up when I go there, too. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to drive there from my house.

Goodnight, Pammy!! π€β€οΈ

I've never been to either of those places but can relate to the emotions when you know you are walking the same ground that the Founding Fathers or other heroes have walked. Last year my dad and I visited Braddock's grave and saw the old Braddock road. It was awe-inspiring to think that some of those very trees might have been there at the time! I've also been to Monticello...twice actually. Jefferson has been one of my heroes ever since I was little. β€οΈ

I just transferred our last few comments over to the History thread, Pammy Jo. π€

Yes, that's what I was thinking of. I couldn't remember the name of it!
