We kept adding more "finals" to that until it became quite a spiel and we could say it really fast...I still remember the first time our mom heard us at it. She was like, "What are you saying?!" 🤣

Longfellow!! Okay, I feel like I'm cheating because I'm just yelling out different authors. 😂

Watch this, Emma... I'm going to yell out answers, too because I have no clue what the answer is!

William Faulkner
Margaret Mitchell
Harper Lee
Tennessee Williams
Oops! Wrong region! LOL!!! I told you I'm feeling feisty! Nevertheless, it feels good to mention some of my favorite Southern writers!😀😁😂

I really have no idea what the quiz answer might be. No doubt it was someone quite poor, as the question says they couldn't stand the sound of their feet on the gravel, therefore they must not have been able to afford shoes!😂👣🤣👣😉👣😋

message 7517: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments It's me again. I've been thinking (and not about what Lincoln's been drinkin'). Emily Dickinson was such a recluse that she probably didn't like the sound of her own feet on anything! My real, genuine answer is Emily Dickinson. Yes, indeed. I'm going with Dickinson.
Pammy Jo

Emma | meadowroselibrary Just a little tip, Pamela, I'm assuming Meggy did this on purpose, the question says "his" feet. Therefore I'm assuming it is a man?

message 7519: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments Oh. Well, I'll still say Dickinson, as I have no better answer. Perhaps Meg was trying to trick us into thinking it is a man.

Something tells me you are correct, Dorothy. It sounds like Thoreau. I am sticking with Dickinson, though. My connection is bad again and I'm afraid I'll be offline for the evening.😓

For your information, Catharine Sedgwick is now "one" of my favorite authors (assuming her other books are just as good!). I have several authors on my list of favorites, but HAWTHORNE will always reign supreme! 😂

Well then you could also give me Longfellow and Whittier and Thoreau and Cooper and Dickens flavored lollipops! 🤣

message 7543: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Well, much as it pains me to say it...Dorry is the winner! It was Thoreau. According to Emerson, "He had many elegances of his own, whilst he scoffed at conventional elegance. Thus, he could not bear to hear the sound of his own steps, the grit of gravel; and therefore never willingly walked in the road, but in the grass, on mountains and in woods."

Emma | meadowroselibrary sigh

Okay, let's try this again...

Oh Meggy...I've got lollipops... Hawthorne, Sedgwick, Longfellow, Whittier, Thoreau, Cooper, and Dickens flavored...🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭
