SOLVED. Children's book about a Navajo girl and her lamb. Read between 1985-1990. [s]

I read this book probably between 1985-1990. It's about a Navajo girl who lives in a hogan and has a pet lamb. At some point in the story both she and the lamb are hurt or have to get shots (or maybe the lamb fakes being hurt to make her feel better, this part is unclear) and they get to wear ribbons around their fingers and ears, respectively. I remember loving this book and its illustrations, which were similar to a water color in style. I remember the ribbon on her finger being red, and the ribbon on the lamb being blue.

I've googled everything I can think of to find the book. I'm really hoping someone else read and remembers this book!

Hey, I said it was a children's book in my original post, but I guess it would be like probably 1st or second grade level, if that helps? I remember it having pretty simple text. Definitely not a chapter book. It was more water color than anything?
