Adult Fiction, 20 somethings in relationships and a paper mache moose

I read this book in the mid 2000s. It focused on adult couples, about college age, and I believe at least 2 of them went to art school. I know for sure that one of them had sculpted a giant moose and it was destroyed at the end of the book. There was always some sort of tension in the group, and one girl made art to protest current events or things that were happening at college.
This has been bothering me for years. I am very grateful for any help you can give. Thank you!
