Noa Bloom (noa_gh) | 72 comments Hey! For the next couple of days we are going to talk about (You) Set Me On Fire! I haven't been able to finish the book yet (I'm more than halfway through) so I don't have anything to comment just yet. Post any thoughts, ideas, questions, or quotes below and start/add on to a discussion! Thanks, you guys!

Nina | 9 comments I liked the book overall, but I thought that there wasn't much of a story. I thought that nothing major happened, it was just about her weird friendship with Shar and her tendency towards fire.

Nina | 9 comments I definetly think that the fire is a metaphor, but I would have liked the book more if there was a real problem other than just her social awkward-ness.

Noa Bloom (noa_gh) | 72 comments Yes, I totally agree! I just read the part where Shar writes the Christmas list for Allision, and I really do not like Shar. Their interactions are definitely different from what I normally read and it is such a weird relationship

Nina | 9 comments OMG SHAR IS SO ANNOYINGGGGG

Isabella | 12 comments i agree. shar is SUPER annoying and weird. she completely controls allison, and is psycho. like the whole time im reading this book im like UGH SHAR IS CRAZY GET AWAY FROM HER ALLISON. i also agree with what nina said at the beginning. i think there could have been a larger plot overall, however i did like this book. i think all of the characters were really complex even if the storyline could have been stronger. however im really confused about the ending, why did allison light the fire? i just thought that was really confusing. i might have missed something but still i found that weird i thought it was kinda random. but overall i liked this book! i was definitely hooked while reading it so that's good. i would probably rate it 7/10.

i just finished it and dang i could not put it down! that being said, i only gave it three stars because despite how sucked into the story i became, i found it lacking and not really my thing.

isabella—to answer your question, i do believe allison set the fire.

i was also bothered by allison’s relationship with shar. while i do understand that it was necessary for plot purposes, and it drove the arc of the story, i just couldn’t get into her head enough to see why she was so drawn to shar. this could have been an issue in the writing itself (not really explaining her thought process and feelings towards shar well enough). additionally, i didn’t really get the impression that she was in love with shar. did anyone else have that issue? the writing didn’t show clearly enough why she was in revolving around shar. maybe that was just me??

sorry that was so all over the place! if any of it just straight up didn’t make sense, please ask!

Nina | 9 comments I totally agree. I also think that throughout the book while she did comment on Shar's pleasant physical features, she never talked about how she loved Shar's personality. It's kinda weird because it almost seemed like she was okay with Shar basically controlling her but she didn't actually love her that much.

Noa Bloom (noa_gh) | 72 comments As I was reading I got to this part that says "'No no no no. Let’s go,' I whispered, jerking my elbow back like a frightened puppy on a leash.” And I immediately thought of how weird that simile is. Shar so controlling that Allison compares it to being on a leash...

Also to lily: I agree, it doesn't really seem like Allison loves Shar...

GhostChildRen | 16 comments I kinda agree, although this might be a commentary of some sorts on how easy it is for victims to get sucked into an abusive relationship. Like at first I was okay with Shar, bit weird but whatever. Then she got full-on creepy. After all, Allison had one girlfriend who abruptly left her and friends who don't seem to be true friends. She might be desperate for attention, whether good or bad. This is probably looking a bit too far into things but that's what it reminded me of.

Noa Bloom (noa_gh) | 72 comments Also, I know this was a couple of comments ago I do think she set the fire. She talks about Joan of Arc and how fire defined Joan, and I think she might have felt similarly about herself. Fire was something that got tied up in her identity, and so when faced with anger and pain she immediately turned to lighting a fire. This is just my interpretation and I would be interested to see what you guys think!
