TAVISTOCK PLOT has been out for a month. It seems a good time for an open Ask the Author Thread with no need for spoiler warnings. Any questions fine, even those that touch on future books (though I may be evasive with some answer :-).

Hi Susan,

I'm working on a novella which will be out his November. It take place in June 1820 at the first ball Julien and Kitty give at Carfax House. The next full novel will be out in May and will probably take plae in July 1820. I'm excite about all the possibilities to explore!

Hi Tracy, Since the novella will be set in June does this mean it will continue from the Tavistock Plot instead of a separate story as some of the novella have been previously? Will we see how Uncle Hubert & Aunt Amelia are doing in their new situation?

As a second questions, with Julien becoming more of the story, does that mean the details of the Mask of Night going to be left out?

Hi Kim,

The novella continues from TAVITOCK PLOT in the sense that it shows how Julien and Kitty are adjusting,as well as Hubert and Amelia (who are at the ball). There is a separate investigation/mission though it has connections to the ongoing fight against the Elsinore League. We also see both Edith and Thomas again.

Sorry, missed answering your second question! Yes, neither Juiien nor Kitty is going to be be a murder victim in the Rannoch universe, which makes me very glad for the opportunity to create the alternate universe. A lot of other elements of MASK have come into play in this book or earlier books - Oliver's spying for Carfax and relationship with Sylvie, Carfax and Talleyrand's collusion over the dauphin, Sandy & Bet, Nan & Sam, the list of
Radical disturbances with Will Carmarthen taking the place of Will Gordon. Are there other details you are wondering about?

What about Julien's previous relationship with Bel? That will be a real surprise to Oliver and Uncle Hubert... :-)

No, in the Rannoch universe Julien didn't have an affair with Bel -that doesn't really fit the changes in his backstory and the changes in the way his reappearance in Britain unfolds. He also wasn't secretly married to Caroline Pendarves as a young man.
