Can someone recommend a powerful book similar to Invisible Man or Native Son?"

I'd have to say The Street by Ann Petry.

Glad to hear it, Carrie. I hope it goes well with you.

I haven't read this one yet, mostly because I don't want it to change how I felt about The Handmaid's Tale

Shaina | 813 comments Congratulations Carrie! A bingo sounds great.

message 8: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments Carrie, we have so many books in common (not only read but also to be read) and have rated many pretty similarly. I liked quite a few of the ones on your shelf. Adding them to my TBR.

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments Congratulations on your BINGO's Carrie! I love that you are putting a focus on rereading some of your favorites. That is something I'm not good about doing. I'm always chasing the next favorite. I need to make rereads a priority.

Terris | 4395 comments Way to go, Carrie! You're getting close to the finish line!

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments Only 3 left, that's great Carrie! I see you read Julias Ceasar. That's my last one. I'm waiting for the Nov group read.

message 18: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments Carrie, I really like the books on your list. Just 3 to go! I can't believe we are so close to the end of the year.

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments Congratulations Carrie! I see you are started on your last 2. I keep wanting to try a Jules Verne book. I want to start with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and other Classic Novels because of it's prominence in All the Light We Cannot See. I purchased it years ago but haven't got around to it. I need to put it on my Old & New for next year since you can't change those.

message 20: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments Congratulations, Carrie! I plan to read All the Light We Cannot See (recieved my paperback recently) this month. I have already purchased the ebook for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to read next year.

Hopefully, I can squeeze it into one of the challenges ;)

message 21: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments I read Around the World in 80 days this year and enjoyed it. So, I think I should be ok 20,000 Leagues too. I won't know till I read it I guess.

I'm glad to know you enjoyed All the Light. I'm looking forward to it too.
