Kathleen, that's a good start. Please add more plot details (e.g., describe the fantasy world) to the topic header (title). We have thousands of book requests. (I added "childrens or YA" and when read - feel free to update this.)
Click the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, there's a "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Thanks. I had a look via the link, but it isn't them.
They were more fantasy (think Kingdom of Landover - Terry Brooks). The main character always had a guide when he would find himself in the other world, who could help him through the task he would be called there for. The main character was like a sort of paladin or champion, who was needed for whatever dilemma that cropped up in the world of fantasy creatures.
He never knew when he would be needed, only that he could be going through a door in his world, which may normally take him into the kitchen, only to find he was anywhere but the kitchen, then the guide would be waiting to take him to what he had to fix.

Thank you. I have tried to add a little more to the header but my memories are pretty vague. I can really only remember snippets, like how the character would cross to the other world and a couple of the creatures in that world.
I was borrowing the books, one at a time, from a work friend and as she was just as particular with her books as I can be, they were all a 'one time read only' situation. She left the company and I didn't think to note the name of the author, thinking, because it was still fresh in my mind, at the time, I would have no trouble remembering it. Now, many years, several children and a few extra wrinkles later, I regret not doing so!
I know it is probably a long shot but I thought I would try here, as even the limited info may trigger someones memory. :)
Please note you can bump your request (post a comment) every 30+ days -- or sooner if you remember more information. Not more often because this group is so large. Here are the Group Rules.

Sorry.
I did read the rules about bumping but thought, as it says not to bump more often than every 30 days, that if I bumped now and left it, then waited for a month to re-bump, it was within the rules.
My apologies.
No worries. Our group is rather unique because it's very large. We need extra rules to keep things manageable.
I'm looking for a fantasy book series I read back in the late 80s/early 90s. Not sure if they were considered childrens or YA books. I can't remember the name of any of the books or even the authors name.
I remember the main character from this world, would always seem to be walking down a path or road and after walking through a fence or hedge or taking turn or fork in the path/road, would end up in another world full of fantasy creatures, like chimeras, sphinxes, a phoenix and many others. There would always seem to be a guide that he would follow and he would be in that world until he had helped with some task or problem. When that was done, he would then find that whatever path he was on, would take him back to his world. He would go about his normal businesss in his world for a time, until some task or problem would come up in the other world, and then he would find himself transported back there by whatever path/road or corridor he happened to be walking on at the time.
Sorry if it seems a bit vague, I can only remember snippets of the books. I did love them, so have been searching for them for a while. I had lost touch with my friend who owned them, years ago, so I couldn't ask her about them.
I'm hoping that my limited details might jog someones memory and I can try and get my hands on them and add them to my collection.
Thanks
Kat
