Payton | 4 comments Okay, so I am going absolutely insane looking for this novel. I read it when I was in either Junior High or in my first few years of high school... so around 2007-2009. My mom had read it first, but she has no recollection of the book. It is NOT for young adults, I just stuck my nose in whatever I could get my hands on.

Some of the things I remember vividly - it is about a middle aged man who is an author. He stumbled into "fame" through writing by sending his first manuscript to several publishing houses, and there was a big to-do with the publishing houses bidding for the book. He makes a lot of money. I think his wife dies...or leaves him...but he finds himself at a party (book club or some sort of after party for a speech he has given) and meets a young college aged woman. He tells her a joke about winning a pulitzer prize for a novel (I don't know why this sticks out in my mind so much) and then he moves the two of them (she as his assistant) to a mining (I think!) town.
I'm nearly positive that the town still acts as if it was stuck in the past...or they dress up for reenactments on weekends. He moves into a gorgeous giant house that has a brass dragon on the mantle or by the fire place...

That's all I can remember... The cover had purple flowers on it and a house...like the camera was positioned in the grass/meadow pointing up at the house. Maybe it had orchid in the title? Can't remember, really.

I would greatly appreciate someone helping me figure it out!! Maybe I'll stop pulling my hair out.

A thousand thank you's in advance!
x

Payton | 4 comments THE MYSTERY HAS BEEN SOLVED
It is called Wild Orchids by Jude Deveraux and it was published in 2004. If this could get shelved, that would be great (:
