GREAT NEWS! My library will re-open for drive up service next week. Yesterday they called me and asked me to participate in a test run! Filled out a form on their website, submitted it, they pulled the books I asked for and 2 hours later called me to say my books were waiting for me. What joy! I got 7 books and I felt like a kid on Christmas morning!

Yippee on the books! Bet you don't know which to read first!

I got my haircut! We figured since I'm already past the awkward pixie cut grow out phase, she just cleaned it up and I'm going to continue to grow it out to see what happens. I cut my hair off because of stress, previous coloring, straightening or who knows, a lot of it had broken or fallen out and the ends looked so thin. Now it's ridiculously thick and so far so good!! I'm grateful that the lockdown has given me a chance to get my hair healthy again.
Thursday is my birthday!!! It's supposed to be the only sunny day here for this whole week and next week too! I struggle with food, I can't eat lactose and follow a low FODMAP diet, and am going to try make my own birthday cupcakes from a vegan recipe.

Happy Birthday to Charlotte!
Things are moving forward in CA. My county is in good shape and I anticipate a return to work on July 1. We got together and hammered out all of our protocols. I'm not sure how many children we will have enrolled as some have needed care prior to our opening and some will be on to Kindergarten. As of this minute we cannot have more than 10, which makes it a bit easier for us.

Happy early birthday, Charlotte!
Are you on facebook? There is a "Vegan Baking" group that shares all kinds of vegan birthday treat recipes. I'm not vegan but I'm trying to find more vegan things to eat. It seems that substitutions are not the best way to go - it's better to find recipes intended to be vegan. They tend to turn out better (I'm told).

Everything is fine here in the Central Florida. The theme parks are opening but you won't find me there yet. :-)
I did go and get a hair cut and highlights. They have a very good system and I felt safe. However, I'm still cutting my husband's hair - he's not picky! :-) I still haven't gone to a restaurant but that's not unusual for me, we only go for a treat because I like to cook. We usually go out if I've just plain run out of ideas of what to fix for dinner.
I've gone back to baking bread and I'm thoroughly enjoying that. When my kids were growing up, I baked all our own bread. Even though I'm dieting and have managed to lose 12 lbs, I do enjoy homemade bread. I just limit my consumption. I usually get two loaves but I really only want one so I give one to different friends and neighbors. My problem lately is I can't fine whole wheat or rye flour but as long as I can get white bread flour, I can still bake. I've been experimenting with sour dough and have a little success so far with my first batch!

@Joanne, How nice that your library is now offering curbside books. I find that reading on my kindle is just not the same.
@Charlotte, Happy birthday to you! Your hair cut sounds like your 1st birthday gift.
@B&B, Returning to work will be an adjustment, especially with new guidelines in place. Do you have an age group that you especially like to work with?
@Cindy, Now that summer is here, my husband and I plan on eating more vegetarian food. I hope you're finding good recipes.
@ Barbara, To think that we've all been missing our hair cuts! I enjoyed mine too... Your sour dough bread sounds yummy.

@Cindy I haven't thought about joining vegan groups. I did join low FODMAP groups and they have a ton of posts and recipes and it's helped with my digestive issues. I'm lucky to live in an area that is primarily asian, with a lot of Indians who are Vegan or Vegetarian so it's easy to find ingredients and foods. Last year I went to a Vegan bakery and got the most amazing vegan crumble... so, so good!!!
@Barbara I have to admit that if I was still living in FL, I would probably be one of the first people at Disney/Epcot... with a mask and hand sanitizer.

I work with preschoolers 3-5years old.

Theresa wonderful news about your sister. I bet you feel much relief knowing Rose will be well taken care of.
Charlotte- Happy Birthday!
I had an MRI today to see what's going on (I've been having difficulty with my right leg). A very different experience with the COVID protocols in place. Wearing a mask even in the MRI machine adds a little more discomfort and anxiety, but it's over now!
I hope everyone is staying happy and healthy.

My library is opening for curbside pickup on the 15th too. I'm happy. They are going to quarantine returned book for 72 hours before putting them back on the shelves. I'll put a request in on the 15th but won't be surprised if it takes while to get filled.

Have to admit, I'm still making some of my regular favourites. I have collected a few recipes, though, and will try them at some point.

Oh, that's good. I know that people will often ask for recipes for such-and-such, and add in additional dietary restrictions, so if you decided to give it a try (it's just baking), and were looking for something specific, I'm sure there are plenty of people who could help you out!

@BarbaraM - have you tried ordering flours from King Arthur?
@Charlotte - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
All - I am so jealous of all the haircuts!

@Charlotte ... Happy early Birthday! Looking forward to seeing your new 'do' the next time we zoom.
I also got a haircut last week and feel SO much better. And today my library announced that it is opening to the public beginning June 15. They'll continue curb-side pickup (limited hours and by appointment) for patrons who don't feel comfortable coming inside. Services will be limited, as will the number of people allowed in the building at any one time.
Hubby and I tried a dine-in experience last week as well. In a small town about a 40-minute drive north of us. We'll wait a while before we repeat the experience. They had a good protocol ... on paper ... but people weren't following it, and the young staff didn't seem to be willing (or able) to enforce it. (e.g. When we left we noticed that EVERY stool at the bar was occupied ... according to the stated protocol, ONLY dine-in at tables allowed, and no waiting inside for your reservation time OR carry-out order.)
I get that people are eager to "go back to normal" but we need to all realize that "normal" will not be like it was before.

@BarbaraM - have you tried ordering flours from King Arthur...."
I just ordered but not from King Arthur. I got it from a miller recommended by a friends who also does a lot of bread making and got me back into it with her beautiful posts on Facebook.

With cases increasing - not in my city yet, but in Edmonton, north of us... which opened about 7-10 days before us - I thought it odd that they actually moved UP stage 2.
Although I'm not ready to head out to eat yet, just from what i see on the news, very few people are paying attention to any "rules" around the reopening.

We are 10 days into the month and he has read more books than me... that has NEVER happened! I don't know what to do with myself... I'm the reader.
Now the gauntlet has been thrown. He says it's my fault because I signed him up for a library card during the quarantine and taught him how to use libby. He says that if I hadn't shown him how to do that he would have kept it at just one or two books a month... but now... he's read 5 and he wants to read more than me this month...
He keeps asking me how many books I'm going to read so that he can read more... I told him I won't know until the end of the month... he's like what 10? I said do you want to know the most I've read, because it's more than that. And now it is a challenge. Sigh...
And I thought I was being nice... ;)
I'm thinking this is going to be my next blog post.

If it were my husband I would be really scared, because the only books he has ever read are by Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott and Bill Walsh. The 49ers just don't write that many books. Whew! I'm safe.

Great topic for the blog! LoL

He currently reading/listening to a Star Wars book but has also been working on the Percy Jackson series (which I need to catch up to him on).
His favorite author is Clive Cussler. He also likes Lee Child's Jack Reacher.
It's fun when we read the same books.... he listened to It soon after I read it so it was fun to talk about what we thought of it.

I am really busy at work, and I used to check in on Goodreads at work throughout the day, but that isn't a luxury right now.
Also the state of the world, etc has me a little on edge so I didn't feel like I could communicate with people in a positive way. And not reading. 90% of my content consumption is Twitter and news, no bueno.
I am getting out of my funk though!
I miss chatting with you all :)

I'd be so in shock if that ever happened to me and my hubby, he averages about 10 books for year, and my goal is always set around 60-75, haha.
I'll echo Meli here, I have gone from caught up on my reading to "4 books behind" in the past few weeks. Work has gotten me in a pretty bad mood lately, and it definitely has been negatively impacting my generally positive and optimistic personality and outlook.
I'm still lurking around, reading a suspense book, and fingers crossed my job will start getting back to pre-covid soon. Gatherings are now 50 indoors, 100 outdoors soon- so weddings and events will slowly become relevant once again.

Oh good, then it's not just me!
Sorry you are still struggling with the work situation :(
I hope things look up soon.

Thanks for checking in Meli-I was worrying about you!

I could just be the exception... but I think that there are people needing to sell and people needing to buy, and with NYC opening up again, even if slowly, people can move forward. While still sheltering. And interest rates are ridiculously low and will stay there the rest of the year, if not go lower. Time to refinance and/or buy!
But I am tired.

I was wondering if anyone was like "where the hell did Meli go!?" 🤣 I'm here, I'm alive, and I am thriving just too much shit going on in the world!
Theresa wrote: "During the last 2 days, I've had three new real estate deals hit my desk - and another has just been referred to me. Who says the real estate market for apartments in NYC is dead??? Real estate dea..."
Definitely a completely different market but here in Indiana real estate also hasn't slowed down a bit.
I hope you get some relief or downtime soon 😬
I work in automotive and we shutdown for 1~2 weeks in summer and winter so I will be off for 2 weeks very soon. I am so looking forward to it!

Thanks, Amy 😊
Great news here in NYC: No curfew for 2 nights, and WE ENTERED PHASE 1! ✨🎈🧨🧨🎈🎉🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈 I haven't listened to the news but from what I saw online in the news papers, all went well today here in NYC. My clients with stalled construction projects were ecstatic. Most are headed back to the office at least some part of each week. Saw a picture of Gov. Cuomo taking the subway this AM - and the subway sparkled! Might have to brave it later this week just to see what it is like.
I celebrated slaving away at home. Busy work day with a bit of a family emergency in the mix. My eldest sister (in her late 70s) is special needs -- cerebral palsey and severe mental capacity limitations. Her conditions have been deteriorating, requiring 24/7 nearly non-stop supervision and monitoring, which the Family Home situation she has been in for 25 years can no longer cope. The process had already started to move her into a special needs nursing home when COVID-19 hit. Fortunately the host fmaily was able to manage - until this weekend. Fortunately there is a bed in the preferred facility and the transfer happens tomorrow. Today was spent on endless conference calls. At one point I was on a call with over 25 people prepresenting the family, the Team responsible for her care now and the Team that will be taking over many of the roles (the new facility is an hour away from where she is now - different jurisdiction. It was an AWESOME experience, re-enforcing just how blessed my family has been with the care and oversight Rose has had. And it is all due to my late Mother who set it all up in the 1970s before she became seriously ill and passed away.
Rose has been a ward of the NYS since about 1957, under the care of the Office of the Developmentally Disabled (NYS-ODD) who supervises her care in the ARC of Delaware program. My parents had some tough choices to make, and in truth, this was the absolute best choice for Rose, providing a learning environment that actually was able to teach her and continues to do so. Rose has an iPad and plays different games on it! How amazing is that for someone who is pretty much frozen at age 3! And Rose imparts a joy on everyone in her orbit.
What was particularly awesome about this call, besides the size and organization of it, and the detail that was being covered, was listening to the stories that the current team was telling the new team about Rose -- all funny, loving ones, which I had heard but my brother (who had joined the call) had not. I've been the guardian by default since long before my father passed away. Suddenly my brother has taken an interest - and that pleases me. It's never too late and he spends 6 months a year an hour drive from where she will be living so can visit.
Anyway, this's really a happy story about Rose I'm sharing. This will be much better for her, she will have the level of monitoring she requires, and the physical set-up will be far more accessible for her -- she needs a walker and a wheel chair now. Plus best of all, she's going to charm and bring joy to a whole new group of people!
Oh and of course COVID-19 was a topic of conversation. There are no cases in the facility, have not been, and it is strictly following all newly imposed protocols. Rose of course has had to have a test, whose results will be available in the AM. Expected to be negative as her present home has been in total lockdown - no one exiting or entering - since early March.
