SciFi about Preteens who save the world, a boy as the main character, joined by a girl and two twins I believe

Hello, I read this book probably around 2008-2010, but i dont believe that was when it came out. The first book is about a young boy who i believe has to live with a distant relative? the town is really old and theres an electric plant nearby that is forgotten. the boy i think figures out that he is powerful and there is some illuminati things going on in the power plant that he figures out. this is tied to the other series, but his book is the main one because he is the main character. it's like a mix of illuminati government secrets being hidden and also i think? aliens? with kids who have powers. he might have also gotten help from a younger man that is not from the town.
