Another great family saga from one of my favourite Persephone authors Dorothy Whipple. The main character Thea is wonderful and out of all Dorothy Whipple's books, now my favourite heroine.
I don't think i liked any of the Lockwood family at all apart from their youngest daughter Clare.
Loved the story very much but felt the ending was a bit rushed.
I've only They Knew Mr. Knight to read now and then i've read them all.
I was a bit disappointed in Because of the Lockwoods although I enjoyed reading it. It seemed to me that there were fewer developed characters than in books like They Were Sisters and Greenbanks, and I missed the richness that adds to the narrative. But I was rooting for Thea and for her unlikely (English) boyfriend and was sitting in the edge of my chair at the end.

I loved the story but felt disappointed by the ending. I would of liked perhaps one more chapter. The Lockwoods were just awful ! the twins Bee and Muriel was so cruel to poor Thea. Have you read all of Dorothy Whipple's books now?

No, there are still a few I haven’t read — The Priory is one and there are a couple others. How about you?
