Fantasy about a wishing well in the mountains where people can visit and speak to their deceased loved ones on the anniversary of their deaths.

The image of their loved ones appeared in the water and spoke back to them. The main character used a spell at the time of speaking to her loved one and caused chaos and death when their loved one escaped back to earth and went on a vengeful rampage.
I am not sure what year it was published but I read it around 1990 - 1992 when I was in high school. I can't for the life of me remember who wrote it, or what the title of the book was. I can only remember the premise of it.

I think more adult than teens. I read a lot of books that were aimed at people way older than I was at the time.
