The narrator's voice is perfect for this book. Did you realize it's Meryl Streep's daughter?

message 9: by Karen (new)

Karen | 298 comments I feel the same way! Very disturbing but I can’t stop read! I heard the audio was good. Read by Meryl Streep’s daughter.

About My Dark Vanessa? I gave it four stars. It was hypnotic. I, of course, found the subject matter very disturbing yet, the writing kept me going. It brought back memories for me in which I did not know how to handle, I was so young. I wonder if this shouldn't become another "talk" parents need to have with their children.

I felt Grace Gummer's narration was perfect.

Britany | 814 comments Yes, I completely agree with your comments and thoughts on this one. Probably an important and necessary conversation to have today unfortunately.

When I first received this notification in my email for the BOTNS Group, I was smiling at the teaser. I only saw the first comment "It's a goody! ". but then realized that was a response to another comment. Got me!

Isn't it "funny" the way we readers are sometimes "caught" by WHAT we read?

Julie M (woolyjooly) | 314 comments Well. I should have read this (The True Story before sending a copy to my 13.5-y.o. nephew, who is an evangelical Christian like his parents. OOPS. Luckily, they intercepted it. I enjoyed it. I don't think I've ever read a story (YA or other) told by a 14-y.o. narrator. Alternately hysterical and heartbreaking. With lots of boner and scatalogical references thrown in. A prize winner! I enjoyed this book by Sherman Alexie and will look for more of his more recent titles.

Teresa Young | 2 comments Just finished White Teeth by Zadie Smith and The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren .

Both great reads for very different reasons.

Sue | 415 comments I listened to My Dark Vanessa in June, too! I thought the narrator was terrific.

Sue | 415 comments That's so interesting! I listened to an interview with the author and narrator, who I found out was an actress, but had no idea she was Meryl Streep's daughter. I think this was her first audiobook narration!
