I really enjoyed reading Children of Blood and Bone because it mimics a lot of the real concerns that we are facing today. Racism, abuse of power, etc. My favorite character was Zélie because of her fierce spirit.
I love Children of Blood and Bone! What a coincidence that we chose to read this book in the midst of all that is going on in our country and the world. There are so many characters in this book that it's difficult to choose a favorite. If I HAVE to choose, I'll say Tzain. I grew up with an older brother who loved and protected me, but was also critical, just like Tzain is with Zelie. No matter what they're going through, you know he's on her side always, as Amari is quick to point out to him in a time of doubt.
As far as a least favorite character, I'd have to go with Inan. I'm sure it's exactly the reaction the author wants readers to have as they go through the novel, but my feelings were all over the place toward Inan both times I read this. I think his intentions are good, but it's so frustrating that he can't put the beliefs he was raised with (regarding magic) behind him the way Amari does.
I've been reading more fantasy lately, which is different for me, but I did really enjoy this book. At first I was rooting for Inan to get his stuff together and come around and it almost seemed like he was going to...and then he didn't. He is absolutely my least favorite character because of that. He almost changed, but then didn't.
Picking a favorite character is harder. I think Amari since she grew and changed so much and I still feel like there's a lot to learn about her.
