I might actually give The BFG a re-read and then watch the movie.
My library has the printed book, audiobook, and DVD. I'll see if I can can get it done by the end of August. I should be able to. My library limits holds to 5 items. I just picked up my holds today and filled up my 5 immediately after but I should have some openings soon and BFG is short.
Thanks for the suggestion. My library doesn't have any of the other books as Audiobooks and I'm just not interested in re-reading The House of Thunder again right now.

I still intend to read Stephen King's If It Bleeds in August. I've also still got The Roundhouse by Louise Erdrich and Little Fires Everywhere by Celest Ng lined up for August reading.

Rachel | 3524 comments Let me know if/when you start reading The Round House by Louise Erdrich and Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng - I might join you for one or both books.

Look forward to hearing what everyone thinks of If It Bleeds by Stephen King - I have one novella left to read.

I’ve been meaning to try Lisa Jewell-just not sure when or which book I want to start with.

I'm planning to start THE ROUNDHOUSE this first week in August. I have an audio book to help me, so I'll get through it pretty quickly.

Do you have the book?

Did you finish The Round House Janet?

I think it's funny that we're all reading the same Louise Erdrich novel, yet we all chose different Lisa Jewell novels.

Dustin, I absolutely LOVED The Round House by Louise Erdrich . I had only read one Louise Erdrich previously ( Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich , which I wasn't excited about. Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler will be my first Butler (when I get to it).

Am currently reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami for my bookclub. Heading up this afternoon to S. Dakota to babysit for a week...will search my audiobooks for one that will fit another prompt.

SO EXCITED to hear the theater might open soon!!!!!

POOL, LAKE, SEA, BAY, OCEAN ?

I'm speeding through If It Bleeds. I'm just finishing the title story, the third of four short stories. So far, I've enjoyed all the stories. I just have to finish the final story which is called RAT.

message 128: by Rachel (last edited Aug 12, 2020 12:30AM) (new)

Rachel | 3524 comments Finished The Round House. I think Louise Erdrich is a talented storyteller. I liked that the story was a blend of many things-mystery/coming of age/history/culture . I thought the characters were well drawn and that the story was compelling. Look forward to reading more of her books.

I will likely finish The Round House later today. Probably 4 stars from me. I've to got to process it all and write a review. When I was looking at Louise's books, not many were readily available audiobooks. I did purchase a used copy of The Last Report . . . but I probably won't get that one read this month.

I think Danell mentioned Birchbark and I didn't know what she was talking about.
I wasn't intending to give Round House 5 stars, but since I found so many interesting passages in the book and used my max GR alotted characters in my review, I felt like I had to give the book 5 stars.

I can start Little Fires Everywhere this weekend! (I just realized that sounds bad - we have forest fires going in my country - very smoky lately. Smokey the Bear is not happy)

I was so confused about Birchbark. You are very observant. I didn't realize Erdrich had a book by that title. I thought Danell read The Round House and I was wondering how her auto correct turned The Round House into The Birchbark House - that seened strange. Then you mentioned Birchbark Bookstore and I thought, Oh that's what Danell was talking about.
This has all been very enlightening.

Just smoke in my immediate area. Every evening this week, thr sun has been filtered red through the smoke. Creating an eerie and somewhat appropriate apocalyptic atmosphere.

Yes, last weekend I had some free time to devote to Little Fires Everywhere and really enjoyed the book. I still need to write my review - hopefully this weekend. I'm getting behind on my book reviews because I've actually been working regular hours.
I liked Little Fires Everywhere so much that I'm now planning on reading the author's first book. That always seems to happen with these reading challenges. I've been introduced to so many great authors and I end up continuing with more of their work.

We still have over one week of Summer Reading! Enjoy!

I really liked her debut novel-look forward to hearing what you think of it. I think it helped to know that although there is a mystery element to the story, the focus is on the family (and their
relationships with each other). Hope you like it. :)

It might be a few weeks before I can get a copy of Everything I Never Told You from the library - I plan to make it a priority. I can only put 5 holds on my card at a time and I get both Audio and Print forms of each book I read. Maybe it will fit into the Fall Reading Challenge somehow. Sometimes it just works out that way :-)

Rachel | 3524 comments I finished If It Bleeds If It Bleeds by Stephen King this was a liked it, didn’t love it book for me with the exception of “The Life of Chuck” - I loved what he did with that story. Glad most have really enjoyed this one :)

Also finished An Absolutely Remarkable Thing (The Carls, #1) by Hank Green - I don’t think it’s going to be for everyone but I had a lot of fun listening to the audiobook. It works for a few things but since one of those things may be considered a slight spoiler, I’ll just say friendship plays an important role in the story.
