PIFM - Chat/Banter/Review Your August 2020 Read

My review:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'll get around to the August thread in a bit

Could I be a pain and ask people to go back and vote for July for me! lol
I'd love to participate this month coming! I will try and add some for august this week too!
I appreciate it...I have been meaning to get back here for so long!
Thank you to anyone who can :)))

@Tonya, I really had a hard time choosing bwtn Green Mile and Night Film! I'm up for a buddy read if you like any of my winning memoirs for August
@Sarah-thanks for you vote!

Our libraries are doing curb side pick up which is fine by me

I haven't been reading as much as normal since the schools closed in March as much of my time has been taken up with homeschooling (and welcoming a new puppy to the family) so I haven't posted anything for a while but I'm hoping with the summer holidays starting on 17th July I can spend my days on the beach or in the garden catching up on my reading while I work on my tan!

Mandy, Dana mom :) and Patricia, please vote (in case you missed me)

PIFM got mixed up this summer. like so many other things!

You’re right, Perri. I’m also behind on reading GR friends’ reviews. It’s not like I don’t have time. I’m just a terrible procrastinator. 🙄

Brenda, thanks for the "like" regarding my review.

You’re welcome, Patricia. As for gardening, I got mulch put down before this heatwave hit, and we are parched here. Even the weeds aren’t doing well. 😂

Lucky you...I have grasses that are shedding seeds. Even the birds are getting fat...

Ahhhh the pleasures of escaping into a book right now is sublime.
I will head over and vote. Maybe even put up a list.

Where I live wearing masks is pretty universally agreed as necessary, but that doesn't mean every one does. There's still heated debate. So I can imagine how hard it would be in an area like yours with lots of different rules. What I notice is how differently people interact when you can't see half their face. I wonder if there will be a long term effect

Boris Johnson seems to be issuing rather contradictory rules which is causing a lot of impatience over here. For example we can go to work on crowded public transport, go to bars and catch a flight to Greece/Spain/France for a holiday without the need for a quarantine but can only meet up with one other household in the local park at a distance of 2m and still can’t see our families at home...

I will be voting and posting my list for August today.

Vicki welcome home! Was it crowded? What did you see? I visited there a long time ago and mostly I remember the nice weather. A real relief from the humidity! And the different color gold

It was not crowded because we mostly stayed in state campgrounds in our motorhome.
Mt Rushmore WAS crowded and it was crazy because almost noone was wearing masks. It was like a different planet than the COVID planet for sure.
We also saw Crazy Horse, Custer State park, bison and big horn sheep, the Badlands, Deadwood, Sturgis, Spearhead Canyon.
We did a lot of hiking in the forest and along the rivers.
The weather was unseasonable cool, Only a couple days in the 90's and we had some thunder and lightning and rain (almost unheard of in southern California!)
A great trip and an area I would recommend. One of the prettiest places on the planet.

Sophie it is very similar here I think to what you are experiencing with contradictions in the rules. We just went into Phase 3 of the opening which feels very much like “do whatever”. The future sure looks interesting.
I’m off to check votes and vote for anyone I missed. Fingers crossed my rural internet issues are behind me.

Melanie are your numbers going down? They backed off going to phase 3 here when the numbers started to rise after the holiday crowds

It looks like school is going to be starting for me online. I am so bummed. I really wanted to go back. I don't like having to sit in front of the computer for hours on end! They have committed to the first week (at least) online. Hopefully we can go back in person with the right precautions. The kids NEED to be in school. For me personally, I feel safe and fine to go back in the classroom with them.
My list is up if you can go vote for me before the end of the month. Thanks!

Ontario, Canada? I always thought Canadians were level-headed!

I teach 2nd grade which is 7-8 yr old typically. We have gotten many notices from parents saying they are taking their kids out of our school because we are not opening. We will see how many actually do so or if it is all talk. I work in an urban area which is about 60% socioeconomically disadvantaged.
I still think we should open and can find a safe way to do so. But, as the norm - no one listens to teachers. :(
Hi guys! The September and October threads have been posted. Could you please try to stick to one month at a time please to avoid confusion to any newcomers. I know you guys have it down and are really helpful to any new participants ..... but ..... you know what I'm saying!!
Hope you're all keeping really well and if you could sprinkle some reading mojo my way I'd appreciate it. My mojo has deserted me *sigh*
Have fun with your selections! :)

Janet, why don't you "play" this month? Maybe we can pick a good book for you :)

How did you like it Patricia? It looked good to me, but not at my library or on Overdrive

David Payne dreamed of being a poet and his language throughout the book indicated it. It was impressive.

Thanks Patricia, that sounds really good

PLEASE NOTE:
PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Many thanks.
