Well after nearly a year of reading it off-and-on, I finally finished Middlemarch by George Eliot

So I have been reading and when I first started reading like any other Karin Slaughter book I was sucked in right away. As I was reading I got to a point that I was loosing interest which has never happened with her books. I took a small break and read which is a novella. I finished that decided I would go back and try Pretty Girls again. I am glad that I kept pushing myself to continue because I have gotten sucked back in and it has gotten extremely good. Karin Slaughter has a way to shock you. You think one thing and think you know whats going on when all of a sudden she throws a curve ball. Was not expecting this at all and now am looking forwarding the finding the full story.

A couple of books I have read recently besides were and . I loved the best. Both were very different and very low angst and was mostly told from male pov which I really enjoyed.

What I've been reading lately:
- love this series, but glad i waited to read it cause those cliffhangers! Not sure about more of this series, Ive heard mixed things about after this book.

- it's an okay series. First few books weren't that great, but got tons better at about book 4 for me. He does some build up books and then a "come together up to this point" type books. I like how he puts things together because there's some curveballs i did not see coming.

- Love this series! With how things have played out in this series I really wasn't sure, I thought I wasn't going to like this one as much as I did.

- I hope she writes more of these, I really like these characters.

- Loved this one, might be one of my favorites in the series. Made me nostalgic for the beginning of the series, which I hear we are going to go through from book 1 in January!! :)

Think there were more in there since I last posted. Those were the main series I had gotten my hands on the books.

i've just finished NUTS, by Alice Clayton; and am currently reading the ARC of PuckedUP, by Helena Hunting. I'm also just finishing Darkest Before Dawn, by Maya Banks. I've read 9 of the 10 Eternity Springs Series books by Emily March this summer. I've enjoyed every book I've read. Reviewing NUTS today. I loved it.

Pretty Girls is on my list too, Sheri. Glad to hear it finally sucked you in. Slaughter usually has me hooked in the first few pages.

it sucked me in at the beginning Sandra but there was a portion of the book that I had to force myself to continue. I think it was just me i dont know. I am super happy I continued because I am really enjoying now. I had as much time lately to read so hopefully will finish within the next day or so.

Ok so I finally finished Pretty Girls about 3am this morning. couldn't put it down. over all the book was great. I will however say this....Karin Slaughter is a genius when it it comes to creating villains. Both Grant County and WT has some of the worst I have eve read but Pretty Girls takes the cake. Very disturbing.

I had to see what the hoopla was about for the Kate Daniels series with Curran so I started Magic Bites. I am sorry to say I am not getting it. I am only 1/3 of the way through it but not even sure if I like the story. The first meet between Kate and Curran was nothing like Eve and Roarke's. In the first meet you knew Roarke was hot, sexy, charismatic and dangerous. I got nothing on Curran. So ladies, does it get better? I am disappointed because I wanted another great series to get into but will stick read more if it gets better.

That first book is tough as it suffers from first book-itis. There's lots of world building you'll never see again. I struggled through and about halfway it hits it's groove. Every book following this one is a 5-star read. And Curran? The best of him is to come and you won't be disappointed.

Oh my goodness, Sheri! That is saying a LOT when you're talking about Slaughter's villains! Wow...I'm going to finish the Will Trent series before starting Pretty Girl, but it'll be the first book after that.

Question for the lover of audiobooks. Do you find it harder to hear about an evil act being done than if you had read it? Some of the things I have heard make me sick to my stomach to hear it and I just wonder if it would have been lessened if I had read the words. Not totally alleviated but lessened.

That's a great question! I think it's harder to listen to it versus reading it in the book. At least I can more easily skim over it if I were reading the story. Much more difficult in audio as you don't know if you're also skipping over important details.

Also, having someone speak it just makes it more...awful, like it becomes more vivid by hearing the details.

I think audiobooks, all the way around, are more intense that when I read them myself. I've actually screamed out loud in some cases. And I agree with Jonetta, I can skim over any section I want to when reading, but you can't do that with audiobooks.
But, it's one of the reasons I've grown to love audiobooks so much. Especially some David Baldacci books.... it's dual narration with both male and female narrators, and there are sound effects like squealing tires, explosions and gunfire. It's really, really cool!

Me too. Magic Bites is one of my faves of the series - and one that I like to re-read.

I haven't listened to many with sound effects but love them when I do!

Same for me. Reading about something I can skim. Depending on the narrator, hearing it can be worse (sometimes the voice of the narrator can take me out of a scene and make it less realistic), and visually - well I usually can't imagine what movies/tv can come up with. So that is the worst.

I finished Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts, The Guardians #1, and loved it! I wasn't looking forward to reading this as the description sounded like a few of her other trilogies. There are distinct differences here as this story falls deeply into the fantasy genre! Here's my review.

I'm now reading Hidden by Kendra Elliot, Bone Secrets #1.

I enjoyed Hidden but do like the other series better. I am glad I stopped to read this series.

Loved both the Julie Garwoods and Kay Hooper books Sheri.

Ladies I agree with all your comments on the audiobooks and intensity of hearing vs reading. I love books that make me laugh and cry and voices in audiobooks can definitely help with that too. Love listening to the different sound effects and multiple voices, all which make the story better. Sometimes the really difficult scenes are hard to listen to and as you all said it is much easier to skim over them if you want than it is to fast forward.

Oh my gosh, I've read lots of books in 2015 and mostly those belonging in the Adult, New Romance, Young Adult and Contemporary genre. Best book so far? When It Rains by Lisa De Jong and Making Faces by Amy Harmon. But there are so many close to them!
