Should Harry Potter have ended differently?

I was okay with the ending. But I can be really weird about epilogues. Either I wish they weren't there or I want one really badly. But for this I don't really have much of an opinion. Honestly I'm just glad it didn't end with something like "And then Harry woke up in the cupboard under the stairs" or something along those lines.

The epilogue kind of felt rushed to me as I read it, like JKR was trying to tie a nice little bow on the whole thing. It also felt a little like a fan fiction ending instead of a genuine one.

Didnt like the ending. For mine, while I didnt think she would actually let Harry "kill" Voldemort the way it turned out with him basically killing himself was cheesy and a bit of a cop out.
Also, it seemed to me Harry and Hermione should've been together, but JKR kept forcing the issue with Ron. The Ginny angle came out of left field. In my opinion Herm/Ron had no chemistry or what was there, was nothing but annoyance and bickering.
Best pairing for mine:
Harry/Herm, Ron/Luna, Neville/Ginny

The epilogue wasn't bad. I did enjoy it but I would have liked more. I really enjoyed the series but I was left wanting more at the end. I feel like there could have been a little more of what happened in between those years and I'm sure Harry's life wasn't perfect. I'm sure he still had a lot to deal with about Voldemort and such. I just wish there was more than what was given.

Didn't care for the epilogue, but thought the ending was fitting. He never was a powerful wizard himself

One thing about the epilogue that I liked was that they introduced the kids and all. At first when I read it, I was like "oh great they have kids, whatever, cute", but since then it's made me realize that she's opened a window for the series to continue if she ever wishes to. Because of the "his scar never bothered him again" (not verbatim) line, JKR made it clear that Harry (and most likely all his friends as well) were done, but with the next generation kids, she could one day write more in the HP world.
So I guess I'm just trying to say that I like the opportunities it opened.

I just really disliked the very last sentence. "All was well."

It was just so... unpowerful for such a powerful story.

And then my sister and I always think it's so funny how Hary named all the children after people HE knew. Ginny was probably like "Oh, Harry, couldn't I pick a name? I was thinking of naming him Fred-" and Harry like "Shhhh, no these names are perfect."

I would agree that there are certainly flaws in the epilogue, but honestly I would have been deeply disappointed on finishing the book, if it wasn't there. The actual end of the book had no emotional or literary resolution, IMO at least. Harry mooned after Ginny since the end of the last book, but now that its all over there is no reunion??? The series has been buidling to the final big confrontation between Harry and Voldemort, and now that Harry has won, the cost was so horrendous we can't even be happy. The whole book, IMO was too depressing, especially for what started as a children's series. The epilogue was the closest to a "happy ending" we got since the end of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and flawed as it may be, it was all that saved the series for me.

I would like to have seen it at least expounded on a bit.. i'd have loved to have known if harry had become an Auror (sorry if that's misspelled) or if after all his dark wizard fighting as a teen if he decided on a tamer job :) same goes for Ron and Hermoine.. yeah they get married and have kids but what else?

JKR has revealed a lot of this info in interviews and stories on Pottermore. Harry and Ron both became Aurors, Harry went on to become the Head Auror while Ron eventually quit and became partners with George in the joke shop. Ginny became a professional Quidditch player for a number of years, before retiring to raise a family and become a sports reporter. Hermione jointed the Ministry and helped rewrite many of their unfair laws. I think she eventually became the Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

thanks for the info I admit it's been a long time since I checked out pottermore but I still think that stuff should have been put into the book it would have wrapped things up a little nicer and not so abruptly in my opinion :) but I still love the whole series

To put it bluntly I was very disappointed with the ending. The beauty of the whole series was its unreal, enchanting, bewitching and MAGICAL quality. Harry Potter, The Chosen One, becoming a family man is just so...normal. Too normal in fact. Personally I felt let down by the way JKR decided to end this EPIC tale. I expected Harry to at least become Headmaster and transform and revive Hogwarts in a world that was no longer threatened by Voldemort. Such a powerful and compelling story deserves a more grand ending instead of something as plain and simple as "All was well."

I don't like the epilogue. I would prefer for the story to have ended before the book was written.

I thought everything that happened after Voldemort died was extremely rushed. I wished she would have slow down a bit and focused on the aftermath.

The only thing I found satisfying about the epilogue was Ron's attitude.

He got over himself enough to be alright with Harry's fame and that was a nice, neat little character development that showed the time-lapse and resonated, more than anything else.

I was not satisfied about the epilouge. all it did was show harry pay tribute to snape. i feel like she should have cut out the epilouge and added more after the battle. like a scene with harry and the death eaters or something with harry and the weasleys.
