Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Finished the The Martian by Andy Weir and I loved it!
Like that could never be me I would be crying as a starved to death or froze to death but what a great story!

Highly recommend it on audio.

Next up for me is A Red-Rose Chain (October Daye, #9) by Seanan McGuire

I've been circling the Martian for awhile. I keep hearing how good it is. My reading time is limited lately. Maybe I'll try the audio instead. I love audio books.

message 305: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) It's great to be reading again. I'm now 76% through Shattered Circle (Persephone Alcmedi, #6) by Linda Robertson . And will probably be done with it before i go to bed.

I'm waiting for my library to get the downloadable version. I'm a bit surprised that they don't have it yet.

Sandra | 4736 comments Just finished Warden (Elemental Paladins, #1) by Montana Ash which has a shocker for a cover but was a very enjoyable debut novel. I gave it 5 stars :)

Elementals and the warriors, Paladins, who protect them.

message 308: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) I've been chugging away since the start of the New Year since I'm participating in several challenges. I'm not sure I can keep up this pace but anyway, so far in 2016 I've read:

Murder at the Brightwell (Amory Ames Mystery, #1) by Ashley Weaver , Death Wears a Mask (Amory Ames Mystery, #2) by Ashley Weaver , Traitor's Blade (Greatcoats, #1) by Sebastien de Castell , Midnight Blue-Light Special (InCryptid, #2) by Seanan McGuire (reread), Stargirl (Stargirl, #1) by Jerry Spinelli , Snake in the Glass (Incryptid, #3.3) by Seanan McGuire (short story), Lady of Ashes (Lady of Ashes, #1) by Christine Trent , and Murder on the Last Frontier (Charlotte Brody Mystery, #1) by Cathy Pegau .

I just started reading Splintered (Arcane Underworld #2) by Jamie Schultz .

So glad I'm re-reading the series without having to wait 12 mths between books.

Definitely worth a re-read Darcy :)

I was hoping the whole series was in audio, that is how I like to re-read, but the first ones aren't. Might be a little harder for me to fit in.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 127 comments Hmmm. I'm surprised they don't have them all in audio yet.

I looked at audible and the first wasn't there. I like the idea of these, but it says they are abridged versions, not really liking that. Who knows what they will leave out.

I'll probably grab the free one and see.

message 320: by Veronica (last edited Jan 13, 2016 07:15AM) (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Thanks, Anne and Shera. Like I said though, I won't be keeping up this pace all year. Once my tv shows start up again I'll want to devote some time to those as well, lol.

In the meantime though I finished Splintered (Arcane Underworld #2) by Jamie Schultz and have started on Half-Off Ragnarok (InCryptid, #3) by Seanan McGuire . It's okay so far but I miss Verity.

So I went to grab the free one and I must have seen that at some point because I already grabbed it in 2013.

::Sigh:: There is a reason I have blonde hair.

Veronica (readingonthefly) Don't feel bad, Darcy. I have quite a collection of physical books that I haven't gotten around to reading yet and I can't tell you how many times I've come home after purchasing a book only to find out I already have a copy. At least with the ebooks, it tells you if you've already purchased it (assuming the same vendor source).

That sort of makes me laugh until I realize you could have bought different books. lol

I do like that if you already have the e-book they won't let you buy it again. That helps.

message 324: by Veronica (last edited Jan 13, 2016 07:33AM) (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Oh, don't worry. I return the book immediately and get a different one. I learned long ago to never throw away a receipt until I get home to verify things. ;-)

One of these days I need to get around to cataloging my "already own them" books and put them on a digital spreadsheet. That way I can carry it with me on my phone and consult the list whenever I'm thinking of a book purchase.

That makes total sense with the spreadsheet, yet I could see myself not doing it because it would cut into my reading time. ;p

I tried to create a shelf on GR with that information. It went well for like two weeks lol.

Well there's an idea! I'm going to try that, making an "owned TBR" shelf. I can batch edit the shelves so I can move multiple books over to the new shelf. Hmmm....

Good luck!!
For the two weeks I was on it it did pay off.

Oh well onto the next one.

LOL!

So I finished Half-Off Ragnarok (InCryptid, #3) by Seanan McGuire and I definitely missed Verity. The book just wasn't as much fun. Even the Aeslin mice were subdued.

I also just finished Daughter of the Sword (Fated Blades, #1) by Steve Bein which I had picked up on kindle for $1.99 at one point. It was okay but I'm not sure I'll read more in the series. It never really hooked me in.

Now I think I'm going to start Libriomancer (Magic Ex Libris, #1) by Jim C. Hines .

Namita (-namita) I finished Sinister Sinister (Shaye Archer Series Book 2) by Jana Deleon and now am going to start Bitter Spirits Bitter Spirits (Roaring Twenties, #1) by Jenn Bennett

Veronica (readingonthefly) ♑Namita♑ wrote: "I finished SinisterSinister (Shaye Archer Series Book 2) by Jana Deleon and now am going to start Bitter Spirits Bitter Spirits (Roaring Twenties, #1) by Jenn Bennett"

I'm not one for the romance book genre usually, but I did like Bitter Spirits.

I finished Libriomancer (Magic Ex Libris, #1) by Jim C. Hines , which started out well but didn't stick the landing IMO. I also didn't like the romance aspect of it since the female love interest basically has no free will due to her magical origins. Bleh.

Now I'm starting another historical mystery, this time set in 1930s New York. Too Soon Dead An Alexander Brass Mystery 1 by Michael Kurland

message 337: by Namita (new)

Namita (-namita) Veronica, have you read The Shaye Archer series? If you like murder/mystery/thriller than it's for you. Give it a shot, easy reads. Book 1: Malevolent Malevolent (Shaye Archer #1) by Jana Deleon

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 127 comments Wrapped up First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones , which was awesome! I caved and read For I Have Sinned (Charley Davidson, #1.5) by Darynda Jones , which really isn't important to the series. I did like the look at the character through the eyes of a ghost though.

Had to quit Opening Up (Ink & Chrome, #1) by Lauren Dane . The romance genre is really losing it's appeal to me. I need more.

Started up Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price . It's time for a reread and I need to get caught up especially since it looks like book 4 is actually coming out.

message 339: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (last edited Jan 23, 2016 04:29PM) (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments Good idea Shera, I should do a re-read of the Alex Craft books as well.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 127 comments Sandra wrote: "Good idea Shera, I should do a re-read of the Alex Craft books as well."

There's a buddy read going on for it and it's at everyone's own pace.

message 341: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) I finished Too Soon Dead An Alexander Brass Mystery 1 by Michael Kurland and Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee both of which I found disappointing (2 stars each). YA books just aren't emotionally satisfying to me. Anyway, now I'm reading The Necromancer (Johannes Cabal, #1) by Jonathan L. Howard and so far I'm enjoying the dark humor.

message 342: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Bitten & Smitten (Immortality Bites, #1) by Michelle Rowen and now reading the second book, Fanged & Fabulous (Immortality Bites, #2) by Michelle Rowen .

message 343: by Anne (new)

message 344: by Namita (new)

Namita (-namita) Reading Heart of Steel (Iron Seas, #2) by Meljean Brook , The Clockwork Crown (Clockwork Dagger Duology, #2) by Beth Cato , Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1) by Gail Carriger

message 345: by Veronica (last edited Feb 02, 2016 08:31AM) (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Fanged & Fabulous (Immortality Bites, #2) by Michelle Rowen then went to read and finish the third book, Lady & the Vamp (Immortality Bites, #3) by Michelle Rowen . Now I'm listening to The Necromancer (Johannes Cabal, #1) by Jonathan L. Howard on audio book and reading Eighth Grave After Dark (Charley Davidson, #8) by Darynda Jones .

message 346: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments Read Vision in Silver (The Others, #3) by Anne Bishop yesterday, wow!!! Really looking forward to #4 next month :D

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 127 comments I finished up Kiss of Steel (London Steampunk, #1) by Bec McMaster , which was a very promising start to the series. Though I could have done with more technology/steampunk and world building. It was nice that there was chemistry between the lovebirds. And--gasp--the male lead was an actual gentleman! Not a jerk.

Started up River Marked (Mercy Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs . I'm a little nervous about how much page time Adam and Mercy will actually get together. Even though they're actually already (view spoiler) where I've read to.

message 348: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Shera, are you worried they'll have too much page time together or not enough?

I've been trying to get caught up with some of my longstanding series so I finished Eighth Grave After Dark (Charley Davidson, #8) by Darynda Jones (still have Ninth to go), Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs , and Spider's Trap (Elemental Assassin, #13) by Jennifer Estep . Now I'm reading The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King by Stephen King.

message 349: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments Shera, from memory, most of the complaints of River Marked (Mercy Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs were that there wasn't enough of the pack in the book. Not that there was too much or too little of Adam & Mercy. LOL

Veronica, some great catching up there. I'm falling behind a little on EA, must remember to schedule them in.
