I hate to say it, but a book is hardly ever good when I have to force myself to keep reading. I'm usually mad that I kept going and wasted my time.

Sandra | 4736 comments I loved the cover and I thought the premise was good, but, it was way expensive when it came out.

Which was why I was hesitating, just looked and it is down to A$5.99 on kindle which isn't too outrageous, but I'll leave it on wishlist and hope that it goes on the free list :)

I feel like there have been a few books where I hate it about a third of the way in only to stick with it and ended up loving it, especially with authors I like.

Even though this one sucked I do hope she hits her stride in the next one. I guess they cannot all be Jane True :-)

Raymond Mathiesen (raymondmathiesen) | 16 comments Killebrity by James Nowlan

Killebrity by James Nowlan

High rollers and fast exits…

Mike Johnson, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, has returned home to Los Angeles. Suffering from a severe case of PTSD he is unable to find work in law enforcement, so he has to settle for a job with a security agency that protects the rich and famous. He feigns an interest in developing contacts in the movie industry and becoming an actor to deflect questions regarding his psychological state.

Unfortunately for Mike, just as he begins his duties as guardian of the stars a mysterious cannibalistic cult of celebrity stalkers embarks on a campaign of terror against them. Our protagonist finds himself powerless to protect his charges from the slaughter inflicted by a foe even more relentless and resourceful than those he faced overseas. As their brutal tactics erode what little is left of his damaged psyche, contempt for his decadent masters grows within him.

About James Nowlan:
James Nowlan was born in Chicago but raised by backwoods hillbillies. Somehow he ended up living in Europe (he thinks that maybe someone hit him over the head and took him there in a sack). The only job he could find was a post as a security guard in the housing projects around Paris (a job they'd give to anyone because at the time ruthless, well organized bands of robbers were attacking armored cars with RPGs, AK 47s, and plastic explosives). These experiences served as inspiration for an autobiographical novella entitled Security. He's also written and directed Killavision, a feature length, trash gore satire of reality TV. Killebrity is his first novel.

Veronica (readingonthefly) I still haven't been able to muster any interest in UF lately so I finished Lords of the North (The Saxon Stories, #3) by Bernard Cornwell (good historical fiction), then I decided to go for some science fiction so I read Leviathan Wakes (Expanse, #1) by James S.A. Corey which was really good. I hope the tv show does it justice. Now I'm reading the second book in that series, Caliban's War (Expanse, #2) by James S.A. Corey .

Nicole Possibly in another reading slump or perhaps I'm bored with Wicked Cravings (The Phoenix Pack, #2) by Suzanne Wright . I will finish eventually, I'm just not into this book; it's too safe for me.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Just finished The Single Undead Moms Club (Half-Moon Hollow, #4) by Molly Harper very cute and it was great to see Jane!

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) Been reading quite a bit of late.
Finished the Black Magician series The Magician's Apprentice (Black Magician, #0.5) by Trudi Canavan The Magicians' Guild (Black Magician, #1) by Trudi Canavan The Novice (Black Magician, #2) by Trudi Canavan The High Lord (Black Magician, #3) by Trudi Canavan
It was really good, and im looking forward to reading The Ambassador's Mission (Traitor Spy Trilogy, #1) by Trudi Canavan which i believe it set a few years after The High Lord.

I also enjoyed Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll Beauty of the Broken by Tawni Waters both were really unique and different. Luckiest Girl Alive introduced me to a new and fascinating genre. Beauty of the Broken is the perfect title for what happens within the book. It was depressing but captivating.

I just completed Prayers for the Stolen by Jennifer Clement and must admit to not being super impressed. For me it seem like this book was trying to be as magical and interesting and Beauty of the Broken and just failed miserably.

Now deciding between Black Blade Blues (Sarah Beauhall #1) by J.A. Pitts or Cold Burn of Magic (Black Blade #1) by Jennifer Estep

If you are a Kate Daniels fan - you should read Magic Stars. It is from Derek's POV and there are bits in there about how Julie and Derek feel about each other and how Derek views the world.

And about things that Julie is learning from her meetings with Roland.

I am an Ilona Andrews fan and love all their stuff.

Thank you I will look into it.
I must admit I know lots of people are hoping for a Derek Julie couple but I don't. I want them to be life long friends In UF I feel everything must become a relationship.

I agree about Derek and Julie!

I think the dragon that was introduced in a short would make a pretty cool love interest for Julie.

There are folks wanting Julie and Derek, Julie and Ascanio, Julie and the Dragon guy, Derek and Desandra.

I feel better about a possible future Julie and Derek after this short story. Considering how long it took to get Kate and Curran together, I think we can probably trust Ilona Andrews to develop whatever Julie + 1 and Derek + 1 to be right for them. Read the post on the blog:

Ha-ha! Love their answers.

I'm not actually diehard on anyone. It's fine by me if they take it where ever, and they end up with totally new characters as love interests later on down the book line.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) tried reading some Patrica cornwell books, wasn't quite me thing personally, a little disappointed that they weren't quite my thing.

Almost finished Midnight Rescue (Killer Instincts, #1) by Elle Kennedy it fairly cliche and there are some annoying inconsistencies with the main character that i find rather bothersome. otherwise not a bad book, probably rate 3 stars when I'm done.
Hoping to find some better Merc books that don't involve cliche relationships.

will be starting The Pale Assassin (Pimpernelles, #1) by Patricia Elliott afterwards, as it was the only other book i brought with me on my trip to visit mum over xmas - not the brightest idea, i still have a four hr trip back (in a few days) and possibly nothing to read O.O what on earth am i going to do? twiddle my thumbs the whole time?

I'm on the last Kate Daniels novel, and I've been having to twist my own arm to not read Magic Stars before its spot in the overall timeline. Plus I knew I really wouldn't want Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels, #8) by Ilona Andrews to end!! I hate running out of books in a series and then having to wait forever for the next one. So I can only imagine how everyone that has been following this series from the very beginning must feel! There's very few series that I've started with the first book, but when I do, I usually get annoyed about having to wait after the second or third book and give up until a bunch more have already come out.

After Magic Stars, I have a couple ARCs to do, and I'd love a little advice from someone that does quite a few ARCs if anyone would care to share their wisdom, and I also have a few follow up novels on series I haven't lost patience with yet. And one that is supposedly the story of the woman and her family whose cancer cells were used for everything to make vaccines to creating some of the best drugs on the market today. It is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot . And I've been promising to read it since I bought it over 6 months ago. It looks interesting but I'm not really a nonfiction type of reader.

message 286: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments I've heard good things of the Henrietta Lacks book. If you don't normally read any non fiction my suggestion is to read a chapter or two between series books. If you feel like reading more, go for it. That way you'll have read it without even realising :D

I was hoping for a buddy read on Sweet Ruin with another group, since it's one of the books of the month there, then I'd space them both out. Because I always want Immortals After Dark books to last forever, but I'll gorge on it to get as much as possible as quickly as possible!! I do love IAD!

I was a hardcore High Fantasy reader for a loooooong while. So one to two year waits don't even make me blink. In fact I'm quite grateful for them.

I've waited for one book for 13 years. (It would be 15 now I think.) Even waited on a few after the author died and they still came out. ^_-

Geez!! I thought Laurell K Hamilton was bad with the wait on Shiver of Light, it was like 6 or 7 years. I'd lose my mind waiting over a decade! I don't have much patience for that. You know you're a book addict when you read an ARC weeks before the book is released and you're already screaming for the next book! I'm terrible about that with Jennifer Estep 's Elemental Assassins series, which I've been lucky enough to get a few of them in a row.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 127 comments I will admit I waited for a lot of the books for EA to come before moving on from book one. I can be patient, but waiting can be painful. ^_-

Ha-ha. ARCs can be cruel that way.
