I am behind in this series. I got stuck with Styxx. It was just so much abuse, rape and torture so depressing. I think I was up to page 100 and it was just dreadful, Ash was painted as a jerk. Maybe I will skip this one lol.

That is the problem with this author. It seems like every book, no matter the series, the hero has been treated so horribly.

message 608: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments I've read quite a few of the series but never in order as I used to pick them up at the library. But I haven't read any for a long time, it just seemed a bit depressing after a while, and then the Nick thing happened :(

Did you read any of the Nick ones as a kid? I like those ones, gives me hope and I love to see him interact with his mom.

Do you mean the altercation? If so I dunno I guess Nick has a point for being upset with Ash but then it just went too far. (view spoiler)

message 613: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4736 comments Yep, it was something like that, a bit hard to recall actually, as it was quite a while ago now. And no I didn't read Nick as a kid, cause I was pissed off with him as an adult (at the end) and the kid ones came out after.

message 614: by Darcy (new)

Anne | 318 comments I just read Tangled Threads (Elemental Assassin, #4) by Jennifer Estep and loved it. Going to start Spider’s Revenge (Elemental Assassin, #5) by Jennifer Estep now. I love this series, and so does my husband. Thanks for the recommendation from Faith Hunter.

Styx was extremely hard for me to get through. I cried and got horribly sick throughout the background story. However, it did finally get better and you see Acheron and Styx, both in a whole new light. It is a gruesome, very gruesome tale, but it turned out to be a good book. It gave me a whole new respect for both brothers.

That is what draws me to it, that no matter what horrors one has gone through or done, there is a love and happiness for them. Keeps me positive and hopeful for the world.

Nick has pissed me off lately also. I seriously liked him in the beginning of the series and understand that being the Malachai can bring his anger nature out. However his recent actions make him a sketchy person.

I read the first book, Infinity, and was not impressed. I got the second also to see if it gets better, but I don't have a strong desire yet to read it after my disappointment in the first novel.

I hope the best for Nick, like I hope he changes his attitude, but I don't have a drive for the Chronicles yet.

You know I just realized that she had two new series the one I just got cuaght up on and the Mercury Pack series. I am super excited to catch up.

I was also catching up with Laurann Dohner New Species series. Looks that one has ended. I kind of figured it would with all the madness with the publishing company. That kind of sucks but I also found out she has a new series called VLG. I think I will read those after I catch up with the Mercury Pack

Alisa I'm currently listening to Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire on audio.

I'm currently reading a book about hockey Journeyman by Sean Pronger trying to fill the horrible summer void of no hockey games being played.

I'm also reading Shadowed Souls by Kerrie L. Hughes kind of slowly. Doing a story at a time around some other stuff I have going on.

Yep, Mercury is a spin-off of Phoenix, so a few familiar faces pop up there.

I've got the VLG, but haven't gotten to it yet. Looks good though.

Alisa Sandra wrote: "Alisa how is the Wayward Children book going? I don't think I realised she was doing a new series."

So far it's pretty good. I only got to about 25% though and then The Kept Woman (Will Trent, #8) by Karin Slaughter came out and since it's one of my all time favorite series and I have zero self control I had to start that immediately which caused Wayward Children to get put on the back burner until I finish Kept Woman.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Alisa wrote: "@Darcy.....I didn't think it was possible for me to hate Angie more than I already did but nope, apparently I can hate her even more."

I know. I think that the author wanted us to feel sorry for her by revealing her history, but it made me hate her more. She knew things were wrong and still made a conscious choice to manipulate people and do bad things.

message 631: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I totally agree. Will had a horrible history too and he's a great person. I've never liked her but once Faith had to read that letter Angie wrote to Will it was the point of no return for me. I could never forgive her for that.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Finished Drantos (VLG, #1) by Laurann Dohner not sure this series is for me, I really disliked the leading lady and her dreadful sister is the heroine of book 2. Plus it lacked depth I think.

Next up for me is Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark, #16) by Kresley Cole this time I plan to finish it before it goes back to the library

Carolyn F. I'm reading Time Salvager (Time Salvager #1) by Wesley Chu for my sci-fi bookclub. I'm on the fence about it.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) Been ages since my last update so I have a few

Re-Read:
Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Opal (Lux, #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs All of them were brilliant as the first time I read them.

Also read:
Shadows (Lux, #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Oblivion (Lux, #1.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout I'll admit to not being as happy with the short stories, Daemon mainly focused on ass and legs.
Vigil by Angela Slatter I wasn't the books biggest fan, but it was fun reading about my current place of residence.
Shifting Shadows Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson (Mercy Thompson #0.1, #0.6, #0.8, #1.5, #4.5, #5.5, #7.4) by Patricia Briggs was really good, enjoyed reading from different perspectives.
The Girl With No Name by Diney Costeloe LOVED!!!
Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) by Patricia Briggs Both were wonderful, and Night Broken wasn't as cringy as i had been expecting based off reviews which was nice.

Listened to:
Agents of Light and Darkness (Nightside, #2) by Simon R. Green was brilliant. Author and Narrator did a fantastic job!

DNF:
Ghost Shadow (Bone Island Trilogy, #1) by Heather Graham painfully choppy and awkward dialog.
An Accidental Soldier by John Charalambous boring.

currently reading:
Origin (Lux, #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I have been reading the oddest book. It was The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty (Sleeping Beauty, #1) by A.N. Roquelaure

When I saw this was Anne Rice I thought oh joy a retelling of sleeping beauty. I am in. All I can say is this book is not for me. It is all weeping and beating and licking boots and forced sex. At 100 pages it was getting worse and I quit.

Perhaps it gets better but I certainly cannot tell.

I started Fighting Destiny (The Fae Chronicles, #1) by Amelia Hutchins the jury is out on this one. I am not sure I like Syn I guess she is supposed to be tough but for me she comes across as whiny with a bad attitude.

message 638: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I'm reading a series of shorts Pretty Monsters (Josh of the Damned, #1) by Andrea Speed I wish they were longer cuz they're creative and entertaining. It's about this guy who works the graveyard shift at a mini mart and their parking lot is right next to the portal to hell. (Apparently zombies love frozen burritos. Who knew? :) )

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) Smashed through Nightingale's Lament (Nightside, #3) by Simon R. Green Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard both were really good.

Nightingale's Lament was entertaining as hell and rather outlandish but I enjoyed it much more because of it. 3/4 stars - unsure which one I'm leaning more towards.

Red Queen was devious which made it a fun read, sure there was some issues but overall I had a good time, it kept me on the edge of my seat a lot which I enjoy. 4 stars.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I just finished A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2) by Sarah J. Maas , Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo , and am reading Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) started Opposition (Lux, #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout . I'm actually feeling really ambivalent about it at the moment, I'm only at the beginning but so far I'm a bit iffy on the characters. Actually I was a little WTF at the end of the last book and this book rambo'd that. The whole thing is a bit nuts, and everyone is weirdly off their game - understandable with their circumstances but they have had shit thrown at them for the last 4 books and been rather consistent in their behaviour, why now?

Anyways like I said just a bit ambivalent... hoping I'll enjoy it more soon.
