Now I am reading

I need to get caught up on that series. I'm now three books behind. :(

Not gonna lie. I'm totally bitter and jealous that you have that and I don't. :D
*off to do best Veruca Salt "I want it now!" impersonation*

Trying to get caught up on some series so I'm now listening to

I already adore you for flaunting off as Veruca... :P

Now I am reading

It is a good series and when you have the time read them back to back that would be awesome!
Don't feel bad though I am behind on so many series!

Now I am reading

Me too. It's my goal this year to catch a bunch up.

Hoping the rest of the book is as good and disturbing. ;)

It's a super fun series. The thing I like about it, is I found I could jump in and out. Pick the ones that appealed most to me.

They are so good. While there is a mystery in each book the secondary characters are developed over the series. That is what I like about it.

Yes each mystery is a standalone but as Darcy said, the characters change & grow over the series.

That is true, but then you are spoiled on how the other characters change.

I've only read the first one myself but I've been told you need to read the first few (3? 5?) in order to get the dynamics of their relationship and it's development, then you can jump around.

Easy peasy. If you read a book a day you can do a re-read in only a month and a half. :D

I actually have the whole series in audio books from audible. About 4 years ago I did a re-read of the series. I can listen to the books at work, so I could probably burn through these in about 2-3 months, but would get burnt out. I might do 5 a month and stretch it out.

I've since bought quite a few of them on sale & 2nd hand & especially the ones I couldn't get from the library.

That is something to look forward too!

I love October and that is one of the few series on auto buy for me

How do the newer books compare to the first few?

I'm with you there. Really like the series up to #5, thought that one was just ok. Book #6 ended up being a dnf for me and I broke up with the series. It was an odd move for me because once I'm invested in a series it's really hard for me to give them up.

Yep this was the same for me. I really loved this series and so I am hoping someone will say oh that book was a dud it is so much better.

Isn't that always the way

The Veil
DNF

I ended up rating both Rot & Ruin and The Veil 3 stars for different reasons.
Rot and Ruin was good, well written, i like the story, and for the most part the characters (though I took a while to warm up to Benny) I liked that even though Benny was the MC he was by far the most badass or interesting. It's nice to see all the action from an out side point of view. So why only 3 stars? simple, the narrator could have done a better job. I found his emphasis on the characters emotions and actions to be bland and boring. Otherwise it was enjoyable to listen to - but I will be reading the next book instead.
The Veil had all the potential. Great set up, wonderful location, fascinating premise, but the characters to me were very.....been there, done that. I should have loved them, but they felt like the same cut out copies of a billion other characters. It was close, like i said i should have like them, but there was just something missing that held them back from being excellent characters that i could love. which is unfortunate. Also there was all this crazy going on at the end, then they drop this personal bomb on our heads which i thought was ridiculous, maybe should have waited for the next book? or done it earlier? either way it completely pulled me out of the story, a very wtf moment. still an enjoyable enough read, don't think I'll be reading The Sight though.
In The Skin of a Monster was so much more than I could have anticipated. It was actually just a random pickup from the library that I came across in the YA section. I was hoping it would be decent, but that was about it. In the end this book was incredible, I devoured it. I loved the whole idea behind the book - I haven;t read a book based on dreams, let alone nightmares!! - and thought it was exceptionally well done, I was a little sad about how the end worked out, I was hoping for more of a HFN moment, but kind of glad I didn't because then I actually might not ave enjoyed it as much - i know I'm insane - the characters showed that they were mature with their choices and actions at the end, instead of choosing themselves first. One must appreciate that in an YA book ;) Rated 5 stars.
I loved listening to Something From The Nightside It was dark and gritty, with a very surprising twist at the end. I did feel so-so about the love interest, but thats sort of explained towards the end - the fact it needs to be explained it weird right? haha - I'm highly anticipating listening to the next book in the series. 4 stars.
Lucky last > Touch which i actually ended up DNFing because it was terrible. I kept avoiding reading this book and could only read small sections at a time otherwise i started feeling ill. Actually the author did a great job, he set out to write a horror book about some sicko's and he succeeded, unfortunately he did to good of a job and I didn't enjoy it. The creepy factor was good, but when it started heading towards a more disturbing territory i pulled out. One must keep their insanity in check right? Shame that i got to miss out on the bad guys being caught - at least i hope they did.
0 stars - didn't rate.

Too bad you do not like the Jane Yellowrock series, it is one of my favorites.

I enjoyed

No problem ;) I enjoy a good re-read now and then. It's fun to see how different you 'view' the same book now compared to a few years ago.
