Do you also remember the setting/time period?

The time period is the present. I don't recall any supernatural elements or flashback chapters to past eras of history. The setting is definitely the US, but I can't remember if the books ever mention a state/town/city.
They were separate in that you didn't need to read them in the order they were published. The group of friends was the same in each book, but each book focused on one girl within the group, so the narrative might reference seeing a friend at school or hanging out with the girl that another book centers on. Does that make sense?

I think:
1, with the African-American girl, is Secrets of the Past
2, with the ski trip, is Hitting the Slopes
3, with Max who wears arm braces, is First Crush

It's amazing which details one remembers years later. Reading the Goodreads descriptions, I see that I missed some major details.

First Crush (other topics)
1. bright blue cover with a picture of an African-American girl on it. In this book, she discovers that a field or construction site is actually the place of many old graves (possibly of slaves?) and gets involved in raising awareness.
2. orange/red cover with a picture of 1 or 2 girls skiing. I want to say the main character's name is Ana, but I can't remember. There's some school ski trip and she gets stranded (possibly with a friend) in the snow. I think she has native heritage and that plays into an interaction she has with another character, but I don't remember the details.
3. lime green cover. The main character here lives with her mom in an apartment (I think her parents are relatively recently divorced or separated). There is one chapter where she talks about her room being the upstairs loft and reading the book Emma before doing her homework. There is a school dance coming up and she is excited to go with a boy named Max, who is cute and has arm braces to help him walk. There is a scene near the beginning of the book where he plays the violin to help another male character ask another girl to the dance, which is seen as goofy/cute.
I remember owning and loving these three books, but I don't know if the series had more. Each book cover was a bright color with a picture of actual people (not illustrations) in the center. Length was less than 200 pages per book.
For what it's worth, I don't remember the series being insanely popular - i.e., I found it on my own and don't remember excitedly discussing it with friends at school that way we did with the Harry Potter/Twilight/Junie B Jone/Ramona/Unfortunate Events series.
Thanks!
