Greg, is this a children's novel or picture book? How old is the boy?
What's the genre or tone - e.g., adventure, mystery, coming-of-age?
Does he simply want the rare shell for his personal collection?

A: No, there is more to it, but I read it 60 years ago and can't remember.
Is it The Lion's Paw? About a quest that takes place in the backwoods of Florida in the 1940s and involves three American kids named Nick and Ben and Penny for a knobby seashell called a lion's paw.
It could be. I have ordered it to verify, and sounds like the one my Aunt Phyllis gave me when she worked for Scholastic Books. Hope to pass it along to my granddaughters. Thank you!
You're so welcome! I hope it's the one you're looking for. I've got my own favorite Scholastic books from my childhood.
Hi Greg, I was just searching and I found Hurricane Luck by Carl Carmer https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...Just in case The Lion's Paw isn't it, I thought this one might be as it takes place on the gulf coast and involves a junonia shell.
So grateful for everyone's help, but Madeleine wins the prize! Why I could not think of Hurricane Luck, I don't know ... age I suppose. Thank you again,Greg
